Consumer Kashrut Alerts

The following kashrus advisory is from the Chicago Rabbinical Council on May 20, 2003.

Snapple brand Fruit Drinks, unlike most sodas, goes through the pasteurizer as a hot liquid. The pasteurizer can be used for non-kosher beverages. Only bottles bearing an "OK" can be used. The very same flavor may appear with an"OK", meaning that the equipment was koshered, or without an "OK", meaning that it has not been koshered and should not be used. Sodas are usually cold filled and, if the syrup is kosher-certified, as with domestically produced Coke, Pepsi, etc., certification at the plant level, except for Pesach, is a non-issue.
