Consumer Kashrut Alerts

The following kashrus alert update is from Kosherquest.org on May 23, 2003 and the Chicago Rabbinical Council on June 1, 2003.

Kedem, Gefen & Tam Pree (50.7 oz/1.5 liter in glass bottles) will be produced as non-mevushal and will be stated on the label. Consumer should check each bottle to determine the mevushal status.
These products in the large bottles are now non-mevushal according to all opinions. This is due to a new process of pastuerization that is below 164 degrees, the minimum that Reb Moshe ZT"L called cooked. This allows people to use it for Kiddish on Friday night according to the Rambam. This is also much more problematic in regards to a non-Jew on non-Shomer Shabbos person moving the bottle. Other sizes will continue to be mevushol.
