The following health alert is from the New York State Department OF Agriculture AND Markets on October 1, 2004.
New York State Agriculture Commissioner Nathan L. Rudgers today warned consumers not to eat certain "Golden Taste White Fish Salad" manufactured by Golden Taste, Monsey, New York 10952 due to listeria contamination. "Golden Taste Whitefish Salad" is packaged in a 7 ounce, plastic container. The product container is coded 9/30. The product was sold in the greater New York City area including Orange and Rockland Counties. The problem was discovered after routine sampling of the product by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspections, and subsequent analysis by Department Food Laboratory personnel, revealed the presence of listeria. Listeria, is a common organism found in nature. It can cause serious complications for pregnant women, such as stillbirth. Other problems can manifest in people with compromised immune systems. Listeria can also cause serious flu-like symptoms in healthy individuals. No illnesses have been reported to date. Consumers who have purchased this product should dispose of it.
