Consumer Kashrut Alerts

The following allergy alert is from the FDA on February 13, 2009 .

Osem USA, Inc., Englewood Cliffs, NJ is initiating a voluntary recall of 1.94 oz Osem Creamy Pasta Chicken Flavor - Meals-on-the-Go with any production code. This product is being recalled because the package may actually contain traces of milk not declared on the label. The recall of this product is of concern only to those individuals who have allergies to milk. Consumption may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to milk. The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the product contains trace amounts of milk proteins, which were added unintentionally and are not listed in the ingredient statement. All production codes of the above product are affected. No other Osem product is affected from this recall.
The product has been distributed only to all-kosher stores and kosher sections of supermarkets, nationwide. The trace of milk that came from the "parve" creamer is determined to be "batel beshishim" (according to halacha, extremely insignificant quantity) by the kosher authorities involved in this issue - accordingly the product is parve and there are no kashrut issues. Customers who have questions or concerns about this recall should contact the Osem USA office at 1-800-200-6736 - 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time.

The following allergy alert is from the OU on February 5, 2009 .

Osem Meals-on-the-Go Creamy Pasta Chicken Flavour, UPC#: 0-77544-15580-0: Traces of dairy ingredients have been found in this product and it is being withdrawn from the marketplace. The product is halachically pareve.

The following Israeli allergy alert is from the israelnationalnews.com on January 30, 2009 .

Osem has taken its Creamy Chicken-flavored "Hot Portion" (Manah Hama) off the shelves after a complaint which led to laboratory tests which indicated traces of milk powder in the product, according to News 1. The company is warning people who are allergic or otherwise sensitive to milk and its use in this product not to use it and return it to where they bought it.
