The following South African kashrus alert is from the Beth Din of Johannesburg on August 27, 2010.

Consumers have reported finding infestation in bags of Oat Bran. Kindly be reminded of the checking procedure for Oat Bran:

• Open the box and remove the semi-clear plastic bag containing the oat bran. Do not open the bag.
• Slowly turn over the bag in your hands while carefully scanning the inside of the bag for any signs of webbing.
• If you find any webbing in the bag, do not use the product. Return the product to the place of purchase (without opening the bag) and request an exchange/refund.

Please note that Oat Bran - whether in a new, unopened bag or in a previously opened bag – should not be stored for any significant period of time without refrigeration.
