In response to queries regarding insects which have been found in the drinking water of Montreal during the last few days, we wish to advise that after much investigation carried out by our experts, as well as specialists of the City of Montreal’s Water Department, it is clear that the prevalence of insects in the drinking water at present is only מיעוט
שאינו מצוי (a minority which is uncommon) – totally not similar to the situation in New York - and therefore, according to Halacha, drinking water in Montreal is permitted.
We are in contact with the experts of the City of Montreal’s Water Department, who are taking this very seriously and are doing everything possible to find the source of this phenomenon, and have promised to do everything in their power to eliminate any incidence of these insects as soon as possible. We will continue to advise the public with any further developments in this regard.
