The following British kashrus alert is from the London Beth Din on March 14, 2013.
"An article last week's JC incorrectly stated that Walkers crisps are kosher certified by the London Beth Din, when in fact they have simply been 'approved' on the basis of information supplied by the manufacturers.
Whilst Walkers Ready Salted, Salt & Shake and Lights Simply Salted Crisps remain approved Parev, Walkers Salt & Vinegar Crisps, listed on p.52 of The Really Jewish Food Guide 2013, are no longer approved.
Walkers have recently announced their intention to introduce flavoured crisps with real meat extract, which could affect the kosher status of the meat free varieties too. This makes it essential that Walkers Crisps DO become kosher certified. We would like to demonstrate to Walkers the level of interest in their crisps becoming kosher.
To register your interest, please post your comments directly to Walkers at www.walkers.co.uk/pages/contact/general-enquiry.php.
