Consumer Kashrut Alerts

The following insect infestation alert is from the Vaad hoeir of St. Louis on August 1, 2013.

Due to the recent discovery of increased insect infestation in broccolini, the Vaad Hoeir has revised its checking policy. We now recommend that broccolini should be washed very well with either a vegetable wash or with a food grade soap solution and then checked with a chazaka.
The procedure is as follows:

If after the first, second or third times no insects are present in the water, take a handful of broccolini, rinse off with cold water and inspect for insects.
If no insects are found, then the rest of the broccolini should washed and then used without further checking.
