The following kashrus alert is from the Vaad of Denver on August 7, 2013.
Purchasing fresh onion in a non-certified store, e.g. Pete’s Fruits And Vegetables: When purchasing fresh onion or other “sharp” foods in a non-certified store, consumers must verify that the onion has not been cut by a knife from the store. Cutting a "sharp" food with a non-kosher knife would render the “sharp” food-not kosher. Some onions being sold outside Pete’s have been cut by a non kosher knife-caveat emptor, let the buyer beware!
