Israeli officials have confiscated over 25,000 eggs that had been smuggled into Israel and had not been properly inspected by agricultural authorities. "Recent samplings showed that a new form of salmonella bacteria that had not been seen in Israel before was being detected in high amounts – with ten times more salmonella present than in the past." "Officials urged Israelis to cook food thoroughly in order to avoid getting sick, and to buy only inspected products, including eggs, fruits, and vegetables."
