February 18, 2016 - KVH Kosher Twitter Feed has reported Greater Boston Area kosher consumers should note - store precut carrots may be product of Eretz Yisroel and subject to Tithing Laws.
The following Israeli produce alert is from the COR Detroit on December 22, 2015.
BELL PEPPERS FROM ISRAEL are now being sold at local stores (Meijer, Walmart, Sam's Club, etc.) and include Sunset brand, Gilad, Field & Farm, Mor and other brands of colored peppers. Consumers should carefully check the fine print on the package, or the sticker on peppers sold loose, for the country of origin. The same brand may have a mixture of some from Israel and some from other locations, so each package or pepper should be checked.
Consumers should always be careful when buying produce to check the sticker, bag label or original case for the country of origin, due to issues of Shemitah (fruit from Israel will be Shemitah product well into 2016), or of Terumos and Maaseros if it is not Shemitah product. Some additional examples of Israeli produce commonly found in the U.S. include tomatoes, carrots, citrus fruit, persimmons, pomelos, dates, and parsley.
The following Israeli produce alert is from the Kosherqust.org on December 18, 2015.
Red Peppers from Eretz Yisroel are now being found in local supermarkets. Care should be taken in regards to Terumos and Maasros. Consult with your local Halachic authority as to the proper procedure in dealing with Terumos and Maasros.
