Kashrus Advisory Coca Cola in Texas

October 12, 2020 from the OU

Coca Cola in Cans, The Coca Cola Company, Atlanta GA:

The El Paso, TX and Abilene, TX canners of Coca-Cola products have retained the services of a new company to supply aluminum cans and lids. The company does not yet have the tools to emboss the lids with the OU symbol. Therefore, for several weeks cans of products from these two locations will not bear the OU symbol. The Kashrut of the products is, of course, not impacted.

These two plants produce a limited range of Dr. Pepper products that are produced under the supervision of the Orthodox Union. They too will lack the symbol during this transition period but product purchased in El Paso or Abilene will be acceptable.

We want to assure you that all efforts are being made to enable the new supplier to emboss the symbol on the lids as soon as possible to minimize any inconvenience to the consumer.

Ed. note: Kashrut.com Recommended Soda & Beverage List is here

The Drinks of a New Generation from the Star-K explains kosher issues in beverages and soda. From the article: "Less questions surface at the bottling facility, where the soft drink flavors are filled with filtered water sweetened and carbonated. Soft drinks are cold filled and, as a rule, are not pasteurized so the equipment does not present a problem. However, intermittent review is always necessary to maintain the kosher integrity of the finished product."
