Kashrut information on Nestle Outshine Fruit Ice Bars

July 1, 2018, updated May 22, 2023 and November 8, 2023 : From the OU in response to a reader's question:

The Nestle Outshine fruit bars are labeled OUD, but in fact, its true status, at the present time, is DE (Dairy Equipment). The coconut flavored bars are dairy, not DE.

What does DE mean? Parve products made with heat on dairy equipment may be eaten after meat, but not with meat.
Some kashrus agencies use a DE symbol, but the OU has chosen not to use a DE designation because it is felt it may be confusing to the kosher consumer. Also, to be a true DE product, the equipment must be properly cleaned of residue after dairy production, and that level of cleanliness is sometimes difficult to maintain and guarantee.
Please note that it is possible that the manufacturer will reformulate this product and add a true dairy ingredient. You will not be able to know this, since the OUD kosher symbol will remain the same. We recommend that you call our office every 3 months to reconfirm the DE status of this product.

Ed. note: November 8, 2023: The OU product search at https://oukosher.org/product-search now includes Dairy Equipment catagory in its search terms.

Kashrut Alert: INSTACART AT THE GROVE KOSHER MARKET

November 2, 2023: From the COR Detroit:

Instacart services have recently become available at The Grove. Please note that the Grove departments certified by the Council of Orthodox Rabbis of Greater Detroit (see below) are certified in-store only. Halachically, a food item which is entrusted or sent in the hands of a non-Shomer Shabbos generally requires one or two seals (depending on the nature of the concern) to ensure that the item was not exchanged. At this point, the Vaad does not certify that the items are properly sealed. Consumers should be mindful of this when considering using Instacart services.

Only the following Grove departments are supervised by the Council of Orthodox Rabbis of Greater Detroit, as posted at the entrance to the store:

All other products must be checked by the consumer for a reliable Kashrus certification on each label.
