The following health alert is from FDA on October 4, 2013.

Turkey Hill Dairy of Conestoga, Pa., is recalling the following packages of 1.5 qt. (48 oz./1.42L) of Fudge Ripple Premium Ice Cream and 1 Pint (16 oz./473 ml) packages of Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Premium Ice Cream, and Moose Tracks® Stuff’d Frozen Dairy Dessert due to the possibility that some packages may contain metal shavings:

    The recalled items are limited to packages sold at select Turkey Hill Minit Markets in PA, select Wal-Marts in PA and WV, and other small grocers and convenience stores in MD and PA. All affected stores are directly delivered to and serviced by Turkey Hill Dairy and have been instructed to remove the product from their shelves. All affected containers would have been purchased by consumers after October 1, 2013.
    Consumers who have purchased affected packages of the products listed with the code cited above can return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or contact Turkey Hill Dairy at 1-800-MY-DAIRY (1-800-693-2479).

The following health alert is from FDA on October 5, 2013.

Orange County Produce, LLC ("OC Produce") is voluntarily working with the Food and Drug Administration ("FDA") and California Department of Public Health ("CDPH") to coordinate a recall of fresh red and green Bell Peppers for potential contamination with Salmonella. he red and green Bell Pepper recall is limited to 3 lots (Lot # SB 7 920, 923, 924) containing 1,208 25# cartons of peppers. The source of the contamination is unknown. The lots were distributed to farmer's markets and wholesale food service within Southern California between September 21 and September 24, 2013. The product was shipped in cases under the OC Harvest (25 pound cartons) labels. The product is typically sold to retail, food service, and farmer's market level in bulk weight and has no retail packaging associated with it.
Consumers who purchased the above described Bell peppers between the dates of September 21 and October 5, 2013 should contact the store, restaurant or farmers market from where they purchased the product and inquire as to whether the affected product was sold by that store, restaurant or farmers market location. If so, the customer should discard or return any unused product to that store for a refund.

HERSHEY’S SYRUPS: all Hershey’s Chocolate, Strawberry, Caramel and Sundae Syrups, that bear an OU-D, contain actual dairy.

Price Chopper brand Tuscan White Bean Hummus bears an unauthorized Star-K symbol. This product is not kosher. The product is being recalled.

The following kashrus alert is from the Vaad of Denver on August 7, 2013.

OV certified products: An OV (a "V" inside an "O"), very similar to the kashrus symbol of the Vaad Ho’eir of St. Louis, is used by some companies to indicate vegan (vegetarian). One example is Fresh Finds French Fried Onions sold at Big Lots. Usually there is some indication that the symbol refers to vegan. In case of any doubt, contact the Vaad Ho’eir of St. Louis at 314-569-2700.

The following Canadian mustard allergy alert is from the CFIA on October 4, 2013..

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Kraft Canada Inc. are warning people with allergies to mustard not to consume Kraft brand Shake'n Bake CAJUN coating mix. The affected product contains mustard which is not declared on the label. The importer, Kraft Canada Inc., Don Mills, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling the following affected product from the marketplace:

"We are sorry to inform you that the Austin location of Madras Pavilion, located at 9025 Research Boulevard, #100 in Austin, TX is no longer certified kosher (due to kashrus violations) by the Vaad Hakashrus of Dallas, effective immediately. This alert applies only to the Austin location."
