Kosher Alert Gerber 2nd Foods Pear

May 22, 2019 from the OU and the COR Detroit:

Gerber Pear Cups, Nestle Nutrition, Florham Park NJ have mislabeled Products:
The Orthodox Union certifies certain varieties of Gerber 2nd Foods products that are packed in aseptic cups. Each cup has an ink jetted name of the product. The OU symbol appears only on the paper sleeve that holds the cups. A limited amount of Gerber Pear sleeves with the OU symbol were used for Gerber Apple Chicken cups, a non-certified product. Consumers should make sure that the ink jetted name on the cups (left picture) matches the product description that is on the paper sleeve (right picture). The mislabeled products are being withdrawn from the marketplace.

Kashrut alert & advisory - Kellogg's Pop Tarts

May 21, 2019 from the OU in response to a question from a reader:

Kellogg's cereals with a "K" are certified as kosher by the OU.

Kellogg's Pop Tarts with a K are not certified as kosher by the OU.

The k on the pop tarts is not the usually k (kosher) symbol. Looks like part of the code. Ed note: See left picture.

The Orthodox Union is delighted to announce that the Kellogg Company has expanded their OU kosher certification to include their coveted Morning Foods products of Kellogg’s brand cereals and nutri-grain bar products. Included in this OU kosher certification are almost all Kellogg’s brand cereals and nutri-grain bar products whose packaging bear the "k" designation. Products with a plain “k” are certified OU pareve and products with a "kd” and “kde" are certified OU dairy and OU dairy equipment respectively. The only exception is Mini Shredded Wheat which is not OU kosher certified even when packaging bear a "k". Ed. note: see right picture.

cRc Kashrus Alert- Tevilas Keilim

May 20, 2019, 2018 from the cRc:

Some kitchen equipment, such as knives, state on the package that "tevillas keilim is not required". This claim is made based on an assumption that the metal which the knife was made from - was manufactured and always owned by a Jew. If however, the retail store selling the knife is owned by a non-Jew or a partnership of a Jew and non-Jew, the requirement for tevillas keilim applies despite the label stating otherwise. The cRc has learned of such items being sold in Supermarkets that despite the label stating tevillas keilim is not required, now that it went through the ownership of such stores, there is indeed a requirement for tevilla.
