March 21, 2019 from FDA:

As a preventative measure, Better Made Snack Foods of Detroit, MI, is recalling 10-ounce packages of Original Potato Chips because they may contain undeclared milk. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled 10-ounce Original Potato Chips were distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders.

10oz $3.99 Original Potato Chips come in a yellow flexible pouch bag and are marked on the top right corner with the following information:

Use by date of 10 AUG 2019
The recalled bags will also have a UPC code of 041633063048

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that a package of 10-ounce Original Potato Chips dated 10 AUG 2019 did not contain Original Potato Chips but instead contained Cheddar and Sour Cream Potato Chips which contain milk. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes which may have affected 660 bags of 10-ounce Original Potato Chips.

Henry Avocado Recalls Whole Avocados Because Of Possible Health Risk

March 23, 2019 from FDA:

Henry Avocado Corporation is voluntarily recalling California-grown whole avocados sold in bulk at retail stores because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Henry Avocado is issuing this voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution due to positive test results on environmental samples taken during a routine government inspection at its California packing facility.

The recalled products – California-grown conventional and organic avocados -- were packed at Henry Avocado’s packing facility in California and distributed in Arizona, California, Florida New Hampshire, North Carolina and Wisconsin. All shipments from the packing facility are subject to the recall (Henry Avocado did not begin packing there until late January 2019). Avocados imported from Mexico and distributed by Henry Avocado are not subject to the recall and may continue to be sold and consumed.

Henry Avocado is contacting all affected customers to confirm that the recalled products are immediately removed from store shelves. For conventional products purchased at retail, consumers can identify the recalled products by the “Bravocado” stickers. Henry Avocado organic products do not carry the “Bravocado” label on the sticker. Instead those products are labeled “organic” and include “California” on the sticker. Retailers can identify Henry Avocado organic products by the bar code on the stickers.

Consumers who have purchased any recalled avocados are urged not to consume them, but to discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with further questions may contact Henry Avocado at (760) 745-6632, Ext 132 or visit www.henryavocado.com/media.

Kosher Alert Nori Sheets

March 18, 2019, 2018 from the cRc:

Due to reports of that non-kosher crustaceans are occasionally being mixed into plain nori sheets, as well as shared oven lines with non-kosher product, the cRc recommends only buying Nori with a reliable kosher symbol. As the nori sheets will have a reliable symbol there is no longer a need to check each sheet against the light for insects.

Israeli produce Information & alert

March 18, 2019 a repost from the OU in response to the editor's question:

Jaffa, AMC Israeli produce and Sweeties with or without an OU in North America have terumot and maasrot taken, however, only the products with the OU symbol are certified by the OU.

Janary 6, 2019 a repost from the kosher Costco Facebook group that some peppers at Cosco are grown in Israel.

Janary 1, 2019 from the KVH:
KVH Kosher has confirmed numerous recent sightings of Israeli produce (peppers, carrots, etc.) being sold at local area supermarkets, including Hannaford’s, Russo’s, and Stop & Shop.
These items are subject to the laws of Terumos & Ma’asros (tithing).

December 16, 2018 from the COR Detroit:
BELL PEPPERS FROM ISRAEL (red, yellow and orange) are now being sold at many local stores (Meijer, Kroger, Trader Joe’s, Holiday Market, etc.) and require taking of Terumos and Maaseros. They include Sunset brand, Gilad, Arava, Field & Farm, Mor, NatureFresh Farms, Pero Family Farms, Mucci Farms, Glad and other brands of colored peppers, both regular and organic. Consumers should carefully check the fine print on the package, or the sticker on individual peppers sold loose, for the country of origin. The same brand may have some peppers from Israel and some from other countries, all in the same produce bin, so each package or pepper should be checked.
One should always be careful when buying produce to check the sticker, bag label or original case for the country of origin. Some additional examples of Israeli produce commonly found in the U.S. include tomatoes, carrots, citrus fruit (oranges, grapefruit, lemons, mandarins, clementines and pomelos), persimmons (“Sharon Fruit”), mangos, dates, dill and parsley.

October 14, 2018 from Mehadrin Kashrus:
Israeli Lemons have been spotted in supermarkets.

Lemons are coming in from Israel. Rabbi Avrohom Marmorstein reported that orchards are checked for Orlah, so one can buy these lemons and separate terumos and maaseros. The Israeli lemons and those from other countries May be sold from one display, so each lemon should be checked to see its country of origin.
