The following revised kashrus information is the COR Detroit and the OU posted on January 31, 2012.

Quaker & General Mills OU-D Cereals: Since the OU marks both Dairy and Dairy Equipment products as OU-D, we've listed some products to clarify things:

  • Quaker Cap'n Crunch Cereals:
  • Quaker Cap'n Crunch Cereals:
  • Cap'n Crunch's Choco Crunch -DE
  • Cinnamon Roll Crunch – Dairy
  • Cap'n Crunch OOPS! All Berries Cereal - Dairy
  • Cap'n Crunch Crunchberries Cereal (w/Green Berry) - Dairy
  • Regular (Original) - DE
  • Peanut Butter Crunch – Parve omitted "(plain OU}"
  • Peanut Butter Chocolatey Crunch Cereal parve
  • Quaker Cap’n crunch Crunch Treasures - DE
  • Quaker Oatmeal Square Golden Maple DE
  • Quaker Oatmeal Squares – Brown Sugar – DE
  • Quaker Oatmeal Squares – Cinnamon - DE
  • Quaker Squares Honey Nut - DE
  • Quaker King Vitaman – DE
General Mills Multi Grain Cheerios Peanut Butter – DE

Additional information from the OU: What does DE mean? Parve products made with heat on dairy equipment may be eaten after meat, but not with meat. Some kashrus agencies use a DE symbol, but the OU has chosen not to use a DE designation because it is felt it may be confusing to the kosher consumer. Also, to be a true DE product, the equipment must be properly cleaned of residue after dairy production, and that level of cleanliness is sometimes difficult to maintain and guarantee. Please note that it is possible that the manufacturer will reformulate this product and add a true dairy ingredient. You will not be able to know this, since the OUD kosher symbol will remain the same. We recommend that you call the OU office every 3 months to reconfirm the DE status of this product.
