The following health alert is from the CFIA on JuLy 15, 2011.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Sol Cuisine Inc. are warning the public not to consume Sol Cuisine brand Spicy Bean Burger described below because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella. The affected product, Sol Cuisine brand Spicy Bean Burger, is sold in a 364 g frozen package bearing UPC 6 28025 01929 8 and lot code 06711 The manufacturer, Sol Cuisine Inc., Mississauga, ON is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. Sol Cuisine Inc. can be reached at 1-905-502-8500 / 1-800-370-8004.

The following kashrus alert is from the OU on July 14, 2011.

West Coast Select Maple Nuggets Smoked Sockeye, Sundance Seafood LTD., Surrey British Columbia bear an unauthorized OU symbol. This product is not certified by the Orthodox Union, and it is being withdrawn from the marketplace.

Calypso Exotix Cups listed on p94 are still approved Parev, but the newly introduced Calypso Exotix Cartons contain grape juice and are therefore Not Kosher.

  • NK Exotix Cartons Passion Fruit


The following British kashrus alert is from the London Beth Din on May 10, 2011.

Calypso Jubbly Strawberry, listed as approved Parev on p.75 of The Really Jewish Food Guide 2011, now contains grape juice and is Not Kosher. Old stock which does not list grape juice in the ingredient declaration is still permitted.
The following new drinks are formulated with grape juice and are therefore Not Kosher:

  • Calypso Rapidz Fruit Cola
  • Calypso Rapidz Iron Brew
  • Calypso Rapidz Lemonade
  • Ribena Juiced Up! Blackcurrant

BAUDUCCO brand wafers and cookies, manufactured by Pandurata Alimento, Sao Paulo, Brazil, is no longer under Star-K Certification. Products bearing the Star-K symbol were produced under certification.

The following kashrus alert is from the cRc on July 12, 2011.

Several breads from Today’s Temptations (Chicago, IL) are not kosher certified.
Only those Today’s Temptations products bearing the cRc on the label are certified kosher and are pareve and pas yisroel.

The following South African kashrus alert is from the Beth Din of Johannesburg on July 6, 2011.

"Heartland Oatsli Cluster, choc-chip, peanut and raisin", bears a PAREV logo, yet mentions "milk chocolate" on the ingredient panel. The PAREV logo is Correct. The choc-chips used are dark parev chocolate and the ingredient panel is incorrect. Heartland are correcting their ingredient panel.
