The following health alert is from FDA on June 27, 2011.

The FDA is warning consumers not to eat alfalfa sprouts or spicy sprouts from plastic bags labeled “Evergreen Produce” or “Evergreen Produce Inc.” Sprouts may contain Salmonella Enteritidis; pathogen different from the one in European outbreak. The sprouts are possibly linked to 20 reported cases, including one hospitalization, of Salmonella Enteritidis in Idaho, Montana, New Jersey, North Dakota and Washington State. Consumers, retailers and others who have alfalfa sprouts or spicy sprouts in plastic bags labeled “Evergreen Produce” or “Evergreen Produce Inc.” should discard them in a sealed container so people and animals, including wild animals, cannot eat them.

The following kashrut alert is from the Kof-K dated June 20, 2011.

A limited amount of brioche manufactured by Anthony & Sons Bakery, Denville, NJ was inadvertently made with a dairy glaze. This product has a seven-day shelf-life. Product on the market until Friday, June 24th should be treated as dairy. Product after this date may be accepted as parve. Corrective measures have been taken.

The following health alert is from the FDA and the CFIA on June 23 2011.

Dole Fresh Vegetables is voluntarily recalling 2,880 cases of DOLE®‚ Italian Blend salad with Use-by Date of June 19, 2011, UPC code 7143000819 and Product Codes 0049A157201A, 0049A157201B, 0049A157202A, 0049A157202B, 0686A157202A, 0686A157202B and 442 cases of Kroger Fresh Selections Italian Style Blend salad with Use-by-Date of June 19, 2011, UPC code 1111091045 and Product Codes A157201A & A157201B, due to a possible health risk from Listeria monocytogenes.

The following kashrus advisory is from the OU on June 21, 2011.

American Nut products, Sylmar, CA were previously labeled OU-D. In view of recent changes, American Nut products will now be labeled OU. Products with the "D" should still be considered dairy. The pareve products have a lot number of 061311 or greater.

"It has come to our attention that the new 7-Eleven on Reisterstown Road at Naylors Lane next to Office Depot has purchased a hotdog maker and is grilling hot dogs under the 7-Eleven supervision.
We were informed that last Friday many people purchased hotdogs assuming they are permitted according to our Torah.
We wish to inform the public that we cannot recommend a non-Jewish kosher supervision or the kosher supervision given by an entity or individual who does not eat kosher themselves."

The following updated egg allergy alert is from the FDA o June 16, 2011.

Cinderella Sweets, of Woodmere, NY is recalling the following Kosher for Passover item because it contains eggs: SHABTAI GOURMET BRAND - Cindy's Scrumptious Chocolate Chip Pound Cake (16 oz, UPC# 8-50097 00106-6, MFG CODE; 151-11-072). People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.


The following egg allergy alert is from the FDA o May 16, 2011.

Cinderella Sweets, of Woodmere, NY is recalling these Kosher for Passover items:

  • SHABTAI GOURMET DAISY COOKIES 10 oz 8-50097 00106-6
  • SHABTAI GOURMET LEAF COOKIES 10 oz 8-50097 00105-9
  • SHABTAI GOURMET COCONUT MACAROONS 13 oz 8-50097-00111-0
  • SHABTAI GOURMET CHOC COATED COCONUT MACAROONS 14 oz 8-50097-00112-7
A review of product labeling revealed a notation stating "egg free" on the products listed above when in fact the products contains egg. Although the ingredient statement clearly indicates egg in the contents, and eggs are identified in the Allergen statement (in bold type) it still poses a potential health hazard.
This product is in a white 8"x5.75"x 2" window cookie box with the SHABTAI logo within a planet "Saturn" type logo, with a bakery type red & white twine border imprint. Consequently, we are recalling all of the above listed UPC codes from the market. Other products are not involved.
Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at info@cinderellasweets.com or call 516.374.7976 Monday thru Thursday 9:00am to 5:00pm.
