The following kashrus alert is from cRc on May 3, 2011.

Although all of the duty-free shops sell their chometz, as required by the Rabbanut, they continue to be open during Pesach selling chometz items. The exception to this is the duty-free shop located adjacent to gate D7, which not only sells their chometz for Pesach, but they also are very careful to only sell kosher for Passover products during Pesach. Additionally, the duty-shop at gate D7 employs Shomrei Torah U'mitzvos to ensure that these strict guidelines are adhered to.

There are a number of local stores that receive packaged items through a privately owned Jewish company which does not sell its chometz in accordance with Star-K standards. These stores include TARGET, SAFEWAY, SUPERFRESH and GIANT. Other stores may be identified in the near future and we will issue updates as soon as more information becomes available.
TARGET, SAFEWAY, and SUPERFRESH: These stores receives many of their chometz groceries, baked goods and frozen chometz products from the aforementioned distributor. Therefore, the Star-K recommends that shoppers delay purchasing chometz items from these stores for a four-week period, through May 24 (the Tuesday after Lag Ba'Omer).
GIANT: Likewise, Giant procures many of its packaged groceries and frozen foods from the aforementioned distributor. Again, shoppers are advised to delay their purchases of these chometz items during the recommended waiting period. Some examples of these products include:

    • Pasta
    • Cereal
    • Packaged cookies
    • Frozen bagels and waffles
However, there are many products that Giant procures from a different distributor, which does adhere to Star-K standards in the sale of its chometz, and are acceptable. These products include:
    • All heimishe baked goods, such as those sold under the brand names Greens, Zomicks, Osem, and Kedem
    • All heimishe frozen products in the kosher freezer, such as blintzes and frozen pizza
In addition, please note that all fresh-baked breads and buns with kosher certification are supplied by local vendors and are acceptable. Examples of these are:
Giant, H&S, Arnold, and Pepperidge Farm: sandwich bread, rye bread, hot dog and hamburger buns.

*2: Rabbi Belsky has arranged the sale of the chometz for C & S, the Jewish owned distibutor mentioned in the Star-K alert.

Ed. note: Check with your local rabbinical authority regarding establishments in your community.
