The following health alert alert is from the FDA on January 5, 2011.

Boncheff Greenhouses, Inc. of Toronto, Ontario is issuing a voluntary recall on Cilantro, Curly Parsley, and Italian Parsley, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. These herbs were distributed to various retailers in New York State and Pennsylvania. The items were sold between December 14th and December 28th, 2010. This recall is related to a voluntary recall from J & D Produce Edinburg, Texas which packs under the Little Bear Brand Cilantro, Curly Parsley, and Italian Plain Parsley. This product was purchased and shipped on Dec 6, 2010 to Boncheff Greenhouses where it was repacked and distributed.
The items were sold under the following labels:

  • Wegmans Food Markets (sold in two stores in Erie, PA and in New York state stores except Corning, Elmira, Ithaca, and Johnson City) - Wegmans Food You Feel Good About Cilantro (UPC: 6-25647-80104), Curly Parsley (UPC: 6-25647-80110), and Italian Parsley (UPC: 6-25647-80125) sold in 0.25 ounce poly sleeves. Translation: "The whole or filetted hake, fresh or frozen, with the brand name Maupacific, is considered under our supervision to be pareve mehadrin only if each fillet has a piece of skin with scales [on it]."

The following kashrus alert is from the OK on January 5, 2011.

Please be advised that MIRA BRAND FOOD PRODUCTS Produced in Bulgaria by Solvex Mira Frukt bear an unauthorized OK symbol on the label. These products are not certified by OK Kosher Certification. Corrective measures are being taken.

The following kashrus advisory is from the OU on January 5, 2010.

General Mills is discontinuing the OU-D kosher certification from all sizes of Bugles Original due to operational changes at the production sites, and will no longer be certified.
The OU-D symbol will begin to be removed from packaging in February of 2011. Consumers are likely to see some Bugles Original packages with the OU-D symbol and some without as the transition occurs. The Bugles with the OU-D are in fact kosher.

The following South African kashrus alert is from the Beth Din of Johannesburg on January 5, 2011.

From the Cape Town Kashrut Department:
Fairview Cheese has varied the contents of some of their Mini Cheese Boards. Some of the new Mini Cheese Boards contain cheddar cheese and a sweet and sour preserve, both of which are NOT kosher.
The standard Mini Cheese Board label bears the Beth Din D logo. This was not deleted on A FEW of the cheese boards containing these non-kosher products.
Consumers are therefore asked to check the Mini Cheese Board contents carefully. Only those without the cheddar cheese and the sweet and sour preserve are kosher.

The following British kashrus alert is from the London Beth Din on January 5, 2011.

Giffard Abricot du Roussillon and Giffard Banane du Bresil liqueurs listed on p.110 as approved Parev are now Not Kosher.

The following British kashrus alert is from the London Beth Din on January 5, 2011.

Baxters Mint Jelly listed on p.85 now contains White Wine Vinegar and is Not Kosher. Old stock which does not list White Wine Vinegar in the ingredients declaration is still approved Parev.

The following British kashrus alert is from the London Beth Din on January 5, 2011.

Dr Oetker Green Colouring listed on p.32 as approved Parev is shortly to have a new formulation. New stock will include Glycerine in the ingredients declaration and will be Not Kosher. Old stock is still approved Parev.

The following health alert alert is from the FDA on January 3, 2011.

Sprouters Northwest, Inc. of Kent, WA, is recalling all of its clover and clover mix products because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The recall was initiated January 1st by Sprouters Northwest after learning that a few cases of Salmonella might be linked to sprouts. Sprouters Northwest, Inc. concluded that this type of cautionary, voluntary action was the appropriate and responsible reaction regardless of the limited information available. The recalled clover products were distributed in WA, OR, ID, and AL in retail chains and through wholesale distribution. The withdrawal includes 4oz. (UPC 8 15098 00201 6) and 5oz. (UPC 0 33383 70235 3) containers of Clover sprouts, 1lb. bags of Clover (UPC 0 79566 12351 5), and 2 lb trays of Clover (UPC 0 79566 12362 1). Also included are Clover Onion sprouts in 4oz. (UPC 0 79566 12361 4) and 5oz. (UPC 0 79566 12361 4) containers, Deli sprouts in 4oz. (UPC 8 79566 12305 4) and 5oz. (UPC 0 33383 70267 4) containers, Spicy sprouts in 4oz. (UPC 8 15098 00202 3) containers, and Brocco sandwich sprouts in 4oz. (UPC 8 15098 00028 9) containers. This affects all of the above products with a “best by” date of 1/16/11 and earlier. Production of these products has been suspended while FDA and the company continue their investigation as to the source of the problem. Consumers who have purchased these clover based products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 253-872-0577 Mon-Fri 7AM -11AM.

These sprouts were also sold in Canada and were recalled by the CFIA on January 4, 2010:
