Shmitta Alert: Recanati Wine

February 16, 2017- from the the Atlanta Kashruth Commission:

2015 Recanati Wine does not have OU certification (shmita concern). The AKC does not recommend purchasing this product, and has asked local stores to remove it from the kosher sections.

Veggie Noodle Co. Recalls Butternut Spirals Due to Possible Health Risk

February 15, 2017 - from the FDA:

Veggie Noodle Co. of Austin, Texas is voluntarily recalling a limited quantity of Butternut Spirals due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
The recalled product was distributed to Whole Foods Markets and other retailers in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio and Wisconsin. The recalled product is packaged in a 10.7oz clear plastic container, has the UPC Code 852287006059 and has an “Enjoy By” date of February 23, 2017 (located on the side of the packaging). Products with other “Enjoy By” dates are not affected. Sold in refrigerated sections of the grocery store.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled Veggie Noodle Co. Butternut Spirals are urged not to consume it, and either discard the product or return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund. For more information about the recall, consumers may contact Veggie Noodle Co. at 512-200-3337 x500 (available 8 am-5pm CST, M-F) or email at info@veggienoodleco.com.

New Line of Products: Please note that the Orthodox Union currently certifies all varieties of Tribe hummus. Tribe is launching a new ‘Flavor Shot’ product line. Tribe Flavor Shot products are sold separately from the hummus and are meant to be mixed into the hummus. The Flavor Shot products are not currently certified by the Orthodox Union and do not bear the OU symbol.

Shmitta alert on Dried Dates from Kosher n Natural The Candyman

Please be advised that if you have purchased or received dried dates inside a tray, in a package or loosely from Kosher n Natural The Candyman on Thursday, February 9 or earlier this week, please note that they are produce of Eretz Yisrael and they are Shemittah.
Shemittah produce may not be eaten and must be discarded according to strict criteria. For more information, please contact Rabbi Tsvi Heber.
If you buy or receive dried dates Feb 10th from Kosher n Natural The Candyman they are acceptable.

REMINDER REGARDING DRIED FRUITS

February 9, 2017, - From the Hakhel Organization:
With the growing popularity of dried fruits (and the increased number of Heimeshe brand dried fruits), we remind our readers to exercise caution as to the appropriate bracha over the particular dried fruit. For instance, dried guava may literally be the product of pureed guava, in which case the bracha would be a Shehakol -- just as in fruit leather. Similarly, dried fruit mixtures such as ‘kiwi/pineapple’ slices which appear green and are in larger slices than the size of a kiwi may very likely constitute a bracha of Shehakol. Let the proper bracha reciter beware!
Hakhel Note: If one is not sure, he should make the possible brachos that are necessary on other foods, with the dried fruit in mind--or simply not eat the dried fruit until he determines what the bracha is.

Updated Food Recall Warning - PC Organics brand baby food pouches recalled due to potential presence of dangerous bacteria

February 8, 2017 - from the CFIA:

The food recall warning issued on February 3, 2017 has been updated to include additional products. This additional information was identified during the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's (CFIA) food safety investigation.

Loblaw Companies Limited is recalling PC Organics brand baby food pouches from the marketplace because they may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum. A manufacturing error resulted in excess water in the product, which under certain circumstances could support the growth of Clostridium Botulinum and pose a health risk to consumers. Consumers should not consume the recalled products listed here.

The products were sold at the following locations up to and including February 8, 2017.


PC Organics brand Apple, Blueberry & Green Pea strained baby food recalled due to potential presence of dangerous bacteria

Loblaw Companies Limited is recalling one specific lot code of PC Organics brand Apple, Blueberry & Green Pea strained baby food from the marketplace because it may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum. Consumers should not consume the recalled product described below.
