Apple Rush Organic Sparkling 100% Juice, in all flavors, is no longer certified by Blue Ribbon Kosher. The company had been certified kosher but all certified product has long exceeded its expiration date. There should not be any of the certified product remaining. Anyone spotting product with a Blue Ribbon Kosher claim is urged to contact Blue Ribbon Kosher at 952-925-3651 or blueribbonkosher@yahoo.com.

Kosher To Go restaurant located next to Continental Bakery on Burbank Blvd. in Valley Village, CA is a non kosher restaurant. The “Hechscher” letter on the store says only that they have applied to a kashrus agency and hope someday to be kosher certified.

The following kashrus alert is from the COR on October 7, 2010.

MAPLEGROVE GLUTEN FREE boxed pasta products that contain white or yellow cheese packets without a - Dairy symbol on the cheese packets were inadvertently labeled with COR 272-Dairy on the pasta box. Consumers should discard the cheese packet. Corrective measures are being taken.
Ed. note: The cheese packets are not kosher.

The following health alert is from the FDA on October 7, 2010.

Living Foods, Inc. of Ionia, Michigan is recalling bulk and retail-size packages of Alfalfa Sprouts, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The alfalfa sprouts were distributed to retail and food service facilities through wholesale produce suppliers in Michigan.
The products subject to this market withdrawal include:

  • Four (4) 1-pound bags of alfalfa sprouts, packaged in unlabeled 1-pound plastic bags in a box labeled as Living Foods, Inc. ALFALFA SPROUTS, with a SELL BY DATE of 10/2/2010.
  • Five (5) Pound Bulk Container (bag in a box) of alfalfa sprouts labeled as, Living Foods, Inc. ALFALFA SPROUTS, with a SELL BY DATE of 10/2/2010.
  • 4-ounce cup alfalfa sprouts labeled as Living Foods, Inc. ALFALFA SPROUTS, with a SELL BY DATE of 10/2/2010. UPC Code: 0 26684 10006 5.
  • 4-ounce bag alfalfa sprouts labeled as Living Foods, Inc. ALFALFA SPROUTS, with a SELL BY DATE of 10/2/2010. UPC Code 0 26684 10004 1.
A single package of Living Foods, Inc. ALFALFA SPROUTS tested positive for Salmonella spp. The company is working closely with the FDA and the State of Michigan to determine the cause of the problem. Consumers who have purchased these products should discard them. Wholesalers and retailers in possession of this product should remove the product from sale and cease distribution. Consumers with questions may contact Living Foods, Inc. at the number listed above.

Please be advised that I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Light Margarine, UPC 68400 30030 was inadvertently labeled with COR 47. This product contains non-kosher gelatin and is not kosher.
Please note that I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Soft Margarine is kosher dairy when bearing COR 47 Dairy.

The following health alert is from the FDA on September 22, 2010.

Abbott is recalling these products following an internal quality review, which detected the remote possibility of the presence of a small common beetle in the product produced in one production area in a single manufacturing facility.
The recall of these powder infant formulas includes:

  • Certain Similac powder product lines offered in plastic containers.
  • Certain Similac powder product lines offered in sizes such as 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce and 12.9-ounce cans.
To immediately find out if the product in your possession is included in this recall, parents and caregivers should visit www.similac.com/recall, and type in their lot number to determine if their product is affected, or call (800) 986-8850.

The following South African kashrus alert is from the Beth Din of Johannesburg on September 22, 2010.

Parmalat will be reformulating their yoghurts and will again be using gelatine as an ingredient. This change will only take place when ALL of the packaging bearing the BD logo has been used up. (NOTE: Some flavours are already appearing without the BD logo.)

  • UNTIL 27 September 2010: ALL Parmalat Yoghurts will be kosher even if gelatine is listed as an ingredient.
  • AFTER 27 September 2010:
ONLY those Parmalat Yoghurts bearing the BD logo will be kosher.
