The following chodosh information is from Rabbi Herman on July 27, 2010.

Rabbi Yosef Herman, the publisher of Guide to Chodosh has recommended the following revised date estimates of Chodosh starting dates:

On each Monday I get the weekly reports of the crop progress from the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). According to the most recent report, as of Sunday Aug 1 the harvest of spring wheat and oats HAS begun. There was still no reported harvest of barley.
My semifinal estimates for Chodosh starting dates are as follows:

  • Oats-Packing date=Jul 26, purchase date=Aug 9
  • Wheat (not pasta) Packing date=Aug 9, purchase date=Aug 24
  • Noodles and Pasta packing date=Aug 16, purchase date=Sept 1
  • Barley (not malt) packing date=Aug 16, purchase date=Sept 1
  • Barley malt packing date=Dec 15
  • Freshly-baked bakery products- Aug 9 in the Midwest, Aug 16 elsewhere.
Note that the purchase date refers to the last recommended date for buying packaged foods without the need for checking for a hechsher (where applicable) or without looking at dating codes.

Sample Chodosh codes for some oats products:

  • Cheerios and Nature Valley Granola bars: Aug 2 2011
  • Quaker Oats (hot cereal that you cook, instant or others that you cook): Jan 17 2012

The following kashrus notice is from the COR on July 30, 2010.

Many consumers are under the impression that various Yogenfruz stores are kosher certified by the Kashruth Council of Canada. Some establishments may even display an unauthorized COR logo on their menu board. Yogenfruz is a national retailer of frozen yogurt products with outlets across Canada and the U.S., including a number of locations in the Toronto area.
The Kashruth Council of Canada does not presently certify any Yogenfruz stores.
Please note that the COR symbol which appears on any product being sold at these stores is only valid for products in their original factory-sealed packages. Once the packaging is opened, the kosher certification of that product is no longer valid.
The Kashruth Council of Canada reminds the consumer that this same principle applies to all non-certified stores selling ice cream, smoothies, and other similar products. As always, we suggest that consumers patronize establishments that are fully certified by a reliable kosher agency.
