The following kashrus alert is from the OU on July 30, 2010.

Northern Catch Salmon Fillets in Cajun Spice Sauce, Salmon Fillets in Lemon Sauce, Salmon Fillets in Dill Sauce and any other variety, Aldi Inc., Batavia IL: These products mistakenly bear an unauthorized symbol and are not kosher. They are being withdrawn from the marketplace. Consumers spotting these products are requested to contact the Orthodox Union at 212-613-8241 or via email at kashalerts@ou.org..

The following kashrus alert is from the OK on July 28, 2010.

Please be advised that a limited amount of Provence Olives (Vitrolles Cedes, France) Black Olive Paste and Green Olive Pasted containing anchovies were mislabeled with the OK symbol. OK Kosher Certification does not certify this product. Labels have been corrected.

The following South African kashrus update is from the Beth Din of Johannesburg on Jaly 27, 2010 and July 29, 2010.


The following Glen's product is once again being manufactured under Beth Din supervision:
  • Glen's Lite Salad Dressing (750 and 250 ml)
  • Glen's Salad Dressing (750 and 250 ml)
The product is parev and must bear the Beth Din logo on the label.

The following South African kashrus alert is from the Beth Din of Johannesburg on January 27, 2010.


Effective 21 January 2010, the following Glen's products are no longer under Beth Din supervision:
  • Glen’s Lite Salad Dressing (750 ml)
  • Glen’s Salad Dressing (750 ml)
  • Glen’s Barbeque Sauce (all sizes)

Glen’s has covered the BD logo on the bottles with a small circular sticker, and placed large stickers on their bottles stating “All ingredients are kosher” – these stickers were neither authorized nor approved by the Beth Din. We take no responsibility for the kashrut of these products. Consumers who purchased these Glen’s products prior to this date are unaffected, provided that the BD logo is displayed on the label.

The following Cholov Yisroel clarification is from the hakhel.info on July 27, 2010.

Two kosher cheeses are made by Oneg Foods. They are packaged in similar packaging. Schtark Mozzarrella is Cholov Yisroel and Oneg Kosher Gourmet' Mozzarella Cheese is Cholov Stam. The Schtark cheese is cholov yisroel and says Cholov Yisrael on the top line of the package.

The following allergy alert is from the FDA on July 23 2010.

Denali Bear Claw ice cream was distributed in the following states: OR, WA, CA, ID, NV, MT, AZ, and AK. Consumers can buy this product at ice cream scoop shops or from Cash & Carry stores.
The product can be easily identified by the label on the side of the 3 gallon tub. The label reads in part "Denali Bear Claw", Distributed by Oregon Ice Cream Company, Plant 41-90, 3 gallons, 10124, 061041. The affected lot code of product is 10124 and the item number of the product is 061041.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that product containing peanuts was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of peanuts. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by accidental use of ingredients with very similar packaging during production.
Consumers who have purchased Denali Bear Claw are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund if in the original container, otherwise destroy the product. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-282-2202, our office hours are between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday PST, but you may call at anytime to leave a message. All messages will be responded to within a 24 hour period.

The following health alert is from the FDA on July 22 2010.

DeBoles Nutritional Foods, Inc. announced that it is recalling lot code 30JUN11D1 of DeBoles® Kids Only! Gluten Free Tubettini Corn Pasta because it may contain undeclared whole wheat alphabet pasta. The recalled lot was distributed to stores nationwide and through internet orders. The product comes in a cardboard box, 8.5 ounce, with a clear plastic window. The expiration lot code is on the top of the box and the UPC Code 087336638305 appears on the bottom of the box. No other lot codes are affected. This recall only affects: No illnesses have been reported in connection with this product. It appears that certain product boxes in lot code 30JUN11D1 may contain whole wheat alphabet pasta mixed with the gluten-free tubettini corn pasta in packaging that did not declare wheat as an allergen and, as a result, the product is being recalled. The alphabet pasta is clearly visible and is a darker color and characteristic alphabet shape compared to the yellow corn small-tube pasta. Consumers who have purchased 8.5 ounce packages of DeBoles® Kids Only Gluten Free Tubettini Corn Pasta with Lot Number 30JUN11D1 are urged to return such packages to their place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-434-4246 during extended hours from Monday to Friday 9 am to 9 pm EDT, and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm.

The following kashrus alert is from the OU on July 19, 2010.

Greenseas Big Pack Better Value Tomato and Onion Tuna and Greanseas Big Pack Better Value Sweet Chilli Tuna, Heinz - Australia: Some 12-pack boxes of Greenseas Sweet Chilli Tuna and some 12-pack boxes Greenseas Tomato and Onion Tuna bear an unauthorized OU. These products are not certified by the OU and were distributed in Australia. Corrective measures are being implemented.

The following health alert is from the New York State Department Department of Agriculture and Markets on July 16, 2010.

D & M Smoked Fish, Inc., Queens, NY, is recalling Haifa brand vacuum packaged Schmaltz Herring with the lot number 168, because the product was found to be uneviscerated. The sale of uneviscerated fish is prohibited under New York State Agriculture and Markets regulations because of Clostridium Botulinum spores are more likely to be concentrated in the viscera than any other portion of the fish. Uneviscerated fish has been linked to outbreaks of botulism poisoning. Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled and should return it to place of purchase. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 718-523-8899.

The following kashrus alert is from the Atlanta Kashruth Commission and 7-11 on July 15, 2010.

The following flavors of teas from Cooper Tea are being sold as a fountain drink in various stores including 7 Eleven. They are kosher and pareve under the certification of the Atlanta Vaad:

  • Blackberry Unsweetened
  • Pomegranate Acai Black Tea
  • Sweet Tea
  • Tropical Green Tea
  • Unsweetened Tea.

Ed. note: Cooper's Green Tea w Honey & Ginseng also being sold at 7-11 is NOT certified as kosher.

Please be advised that some JELL-O Strawberry Cheesecake Snacks recently produced by Kraft Foods were incorrectly labeled with an OK-D. The OK does not certify this product due to the fact that it contains gelatin.
