UPDATE OF HOME BAKING FLOUR

WARNING ON HOME BAKING FLOUR HAS BEEN CANCELLED
Several weeks ago we were warned by sources in the flour milling industry that a recent major recall of Gold Medal home baking flour may result in significant shifts in the use of winter wheat vs. spring wheat in such flours. As a result of this, we issued a warning to the Yoshon-observant public for assurance of Yoshon to use all home baking flour if it either has an hashgocho for Yoshon, or it can be determined from the dating code that the flour was packed before Jul 29 ’16. In fact, it has now been determined that the situation has not changed from previous years. Therefore, those flours which have been from winter wheat in the past, should continue to be so this year as well. This includes Gold Medal Flour from factory KC and the Heckers and Ceresota brands.

DRAFT OF THE PRELIMINARY GUIDE TO CHODOSH is here

Rabbi Herman CHODOSH BULLETIN- 11 Sept 16

UPDATE OF HOME BAKING FLOUR
Heckers and Ceresota flour will be from winter wheat all season as in the past. I am still waiting for clarification for Gold Medal flour from factory KC.

From R Herman: "The Guide to Chodosh is published in two editions. The Preliminary Guide is due to be released soon, the full Guide for the season after sukkos. The draft of the Preliminary Guide is ready. It is still incomplete and has some errors, mostly typographical. I hope to send all of you this preliminary draft later today. You should be able to use it to get the Chodosh code for most packaged products. You will note that most information that depends on mashgichim is missing. Their information has not yet been forwarded to us. If you find any errors or confusing entries, please drop me a note to yherman@earthlink.net. I will not be able to answer each email, but will appreciate your feedback."

Shearer’s Foods, LLC of Massillon, OH is recalling Meijer brand 8.5 ounce packages of No Salt Added Kettle Cooked Potato Chips because they may contain undeclared soy and milk.
The recalled No Salt Added Kettle Cooked Potato Chips were distributed to Meijer stores throughout the Midwest from August 10, 2016 until September 8, 2016.

7-Eleven Syrups - The Vanilla, Cherry and Lemon Flavor Shots offered at the fountain soda machine at many 7Eleven stores are kosher DAIRY - CHOLOV STAM!!

August 24, 2016: From the cRc:

Until recently, if the syrup was known to be kosher then there was no reason not to buy a drink from the fountain dispenser. However, over the past few months, 7-Eleven has introduced a new fountain soda machine into their stores which has raised doubts about these assumptions. Voluntary Recall of Baker's Scoop Whole Wheat Flour Product Due to Possible Foreign Matter

September 8, 2016 - From the FDA:

The Morrison Milling Company has initiated a recall of the following item:

Morrison’s Number Product Name Package Size Product UPC Product Lot Number
01100 The Baker’s Scoop HEB 100% Whole Wheat Flour Net Wt. 5 Lbs. (2.27Kg) 4122019322 Best By 021418 DIT 6236
Best By 021518 DIT 6237

due the possibility of the presence of soft nylon fragments of mesh resembling white hair, caused by a faulty screen at our production facility. Foodborne foreign objects, in some instances may cause injuries such as choking. The severity and type of injury a consumer might experience depends on the size and shape of the foreign object.

The problem was detected internally by our quality department during a routine production line check.

While no nylon “hairs” have been found in finished product at all, we are taking this voluntary action in an overabundance of caution.

The potentially affected products are distributed through retail HEB supermarkets which are located in the Southwestern region of the USA.

The potentially affected product consists of retail packages weighing 5 Lbs.

The code date information can be found on the top folded seal of the package.

Consumers who have purchased the product with the above “Best By” dates before September 8, 2016 can return it to its place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may call Morrison Milling Customer Service Center at 1-800-847-5608 or by e-mail at customerservice@chg.com for more information. The customer service desk will be staffed in person from 8am to 5pm CST Monday to Friday.
