The following sulfite allergy alert is from the FDA on June 15, 2010.

Sirob Imports, Inc., Lindenhurst, NY, is recalling 16 oz vacuum packed bags of Strawberry Farm Sun Dried Tomatoes because they contain undeclared sulfites. Consumers who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product. The product comes in 16 oz, clear plastic vacuum packed bags. The recalled Strawberry Farm Sun Dried Tomatoes were distributed in Queens, NY to a retail store. The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in the 16 oz vacuum packed bags Strawberry Farm Sun Dried Tomatoes which were not declared on the label. Consumers who have purchased 16 oz vacuum packed bags Strawberry Farm Sun Dried Tomatoes are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 631-957-8888.

The following allergy and kashrus alert is from the FDA on June 12, 2010.

Bimbo Bakeries USA, Inc. is recalling Bimbo brand Soft White Bread (1 lb. 4 oz. or 567 grams) sold in CA, ID, OR and WA because it may contain undeclared milk. The product being recalled has a red band of color above the clear bag window on the front of bread bag and square lock tab closures in the colors and dates as follows:

  • white tab - 6/14 or 6/21
  • blue tab - 6/15
  • tan tab - 6/17
  • green tab - 6/18
  • red tab - 6/20
The company announced the recall after it was discovered that the product containing milk was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk. All products with the above code dates are being removed from store shelves. No other Bimbo brand products are affected.

Pronutro Strawberry and Pronutro Chocolate are incorrectly labelled as parev. These two products are MILCHIK. Bokomo apologises for the error and corrective measures have been taken.

The following British kashrus alert is from the London Beth Din on June 9, 2010.

Please note that although Calypso Pure Fruit Juices are listed as approved and Parev on p.89, there is now a new variety, Calypso Tropical Juice which is Not Kosher. The other varieties are still permitted.

Newly launched icepop, Calypso Jubbly Cola is Not Kosher. The kosher status of other varieties is as follows:

The following health and kashrus alert is from the FDA on May 30, 2010.

Better Made Snack Foods, Detroit, Michigan is issuing a voluntary recall only of their Better Made 3-ounce Original Potato Sticks because it may contain undeclared dairy. This product is distributed in Michigan to local stores. The product comes in a 3-ounce package with a UPC# 0-41633-01203-9, with an expiration date of July 23rd on the front with a time stamp that has the first seven digits that read 0706112. The recall was initiated after it was discovered the product containing dairy was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of dairy. Consumers who have purchased 3-ounce packages of Better Made Original Potato Sticks are asked to call the Better Made Hotline for a refund at 800/409-9427.

The following kashrus alert is from the OU on June 3, 2010.

Woeber's Mayo Gourmet Roasted Chipotle Mayonnaise, UPC: 0 24680-00855 7, Woeber Mustard Mfg. Co., Springfield, OH: This certified product contains dairy ingredients as listed on the ingredient panel but the dairy designation has been inadvertently omitted. Packaging has been revised. The dairy content is insignificant, and therefore is botul (nullified).

The following revised kashrus alert is from Vaad Hoeir of St.Louis on June 2, 2010.

VegaDeli (Chesterfield, MO) in consultation with the Vaad Hoeir of St. Louis has decided to extend its kosher certification through the end of June, 2010. VegaDeli then will determine if it is beneficial to remain kosher certified depending upon the support it receives from the St. Louis Jewish community.
