Rabbi Herman CHODOSH BULLETIN-19 JUL 16

The harvest of the Chodosh spring wheat and barley had not yet started as of the beginning of this week. Therefore, below are the revised tentative starting dates:
Our tentative recommended cutoff dates for packaged foods is Jul 20 for oats and Aug 3 for wheat and barley products (not malt, which is much later). These are packaging dates. It should take several weeks beyond that for the Chodosh packages to reach the local groceries. However, freshly baked goods in bakeries, such as bread, challah, bagels may be Chodosh (tentative) starting Aug 3 in the mid West and Aug 10 elsewhere in the US.
Even though Pesach was late on the solar calendar this year, still almost all of the 3 crops of interest were planted after Pesach and are Chodosh. The early harvest this year is due to weather conditions in the growing areas.
Those who want to purchase Yoshon items to store over the Chodosh season should do so now, as soon as possible.

Kashrus alert on C.A.S. brand Cheesecakes and Cheesecake Products

July 20, 2016: From the BVK (Buffalo Vaad HaKashrut):
All C.A.S. brand Cheesecakes and Cheesecake Products, made under their own label ('Arthur Paul’) and under Private Labels are certified by the BVK as DAIRY (not Cholev Yisroel). Some boxes have gone out with the hashgacha "BVK" yet without the 'D' or "Dairy" designation . This product is indeed DAIRY and the issue of the mistaken labels is being resolved post haste.

Kashrus alert on Orange Crush and Hawaiian Punch

JULY 14, 2016 from the CRC:
There are several drink mix powders on the market that use the brand name of popular sodas (pops) on the market, such as Orange Crush and Hawaiian Punch.
These are just brand names that were bought through a licensing process and have absolutely no connection to the actual soda company. They would all require a reliable kosher certification on each label to be consider kosher.
