The following cashew and walnut allergy alert is from the FAAN on March 8, 2010.

Gertels Bake Shoppe is recalling Quality Delancey brand ”Chocolate Leaves” cookies due to undeclared cashews and walnuts. The product was only distributed to Supersol Scarsdale Supermarket in New York. The product is in 10-oz. clear plastic containers with the expiration date of 3/20/10. Consumers may return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may call (718) 943-6690.

The following soy and fish allergy alert is from the FDA on March 5, 2010.

Ed Roller, Inc., Rochester, NY is voluntarily recalling Wegmans Food You Feel Good About® Medium Seafood Sauce, 9 ounce glass jar, UPC #77890 84032, because the product may contain undeclared soy and anchovies. Only those jars with a sell-by date up to and including April 21 are included in this recall. The sell-by date is heat stamped on the label. The recalled product is packaged in a 9 oz. clear glass jar with a white screw top and was distributed to 75 Wegmans Food Markets in NY, PA, NJ, VA, and MD. The recall was initiated after a recent inspection by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets revealed the omission of Worcestershire sauce in the ingredient statement of this product. Worcestershire sauce is made with ingredients that include soy and anchovies. Production of this product has been temporarily suspended until corrective actions are taken. Consumers who have purchased Wegmans 9 oz. Food You Feel Good About® Medium Seafood Sauce, , UPC #77890 84032 may return the product to Wegmans for a full refund. Consumers with questions or concerns may contact Wegmans’ consumer affairs department at (800) 934-6267, ext. 4760 Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m EST.

The following health alert is from the FDA dated March 3, 2010.

Earth Island is conducting a voluntary recall on its distribution of the following Follow Your Heart brand products as a precautionary measure due to possible Salmonella contamination of a natural flavor from one of our suppliers. The recalled products contain natural flavor supplied by Basic Food Flavors of Las Vegas, Nevada. Follow Your Heart deli products are sold at grocery and health food stores and served in commissaries in the Southern California region. Follow Your Heart dressings are sold in grocery and health food stores nationwide. The following are the kosher products that were recalled:

  • Follow Your Heart Organic Creamy Ranch Dressing – 12oz JUN 14 10, JUN 21 10 0-49568-66012-7
  • Follow Your Heart Organic Creamy Ranch Dressing – 32oz JUN 14 10, JUN 21 10 0-49568-66032-5
  • Follow Your Heart Organic Creamy Ranch Dressing – 128oz JUN 14 10 Organic Creamy Ranch

Sunkist Orange Float and A & W Root Beer Float were erroneously listed as approved on a cRc kosher certificate and the cRc website. These particular Sunkist and A & W products are not under cRc certification.

The following health alert is from the FDA dated March 2, 2010.

Tim's Cascade Snacks, Algona, WA is recalling 'HAWAIIAN® Kettle Style Potato Chips - SWEET MAUI ONION’ AND 'HAWAIIAN - SWEET MAUI ONION RINGS' because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. 'Hawaiian® Kettle Style Potato Chips- Sweet Maui Onion' and 'Hawaiian- Sweet Maui Onion Rings' were distributed nationwide and in Canada through retail stores, distributors, direct delivery and internet sales. These products were sold as individual bags and as components of packs, including variety packs. No other 'Hawaiian' products are involved in this recall.

The 'HAWAIIAN® Kettle Style Potato Chips - SWEET MAUI ONION' AND 'HAWAIIAN - SWEET MAUI ONION RINGS' are being recalled because they contain HVP (hydrolyzed vegetable protein) manufactured, distributed and recalled by Basic Food Flavors, Inc., Las Vegas, NV.
Consumers who have purchased these products should not consume them and should return them to the retailer they were purchased from for a full refund. Tim's Cascade and our retailers are removing recalled product from retailers' shelves. As a result, consumers can be assured that all other Tim's Cascade products that remain on-shelf are safe and not subject to this recall. Consumers with questions may call 888-299-7646. Live assistance is 8am-4pm CST and a recording with all pertinent information runs continuously.
