Morningstar Foods is voluntarily recalling 32-ounce Great Value Half & Half, UPC 6 05388 187 16 1, item code 1871600, plant code 21-031; 32-ounce Great Value 36% Heavy Whipping Cream, UPC 6 05388 187 18 5, item code 1871800, plant code 21-031; 32-ounce Kroger brand 36% Heavy Whipping Cream, UPC 0 11110 438 28 7, item code 4382900, plant code 21-031; and 64-ounce Wholesome Farms Chocolate Ice Cream Mix, UPC 0 74865 57 983 4 (if purchased in a multi-pack, the UPC code is 1 00 74865 57983 1), item code 5798300, plant code 21-031 because these products may contain soy protein. The individual cartons are printed with a use by date of December 16, 2009 for the Great Value items; December 16 and 17, 2009 for the Kroger item; and January 7, 2010 for the Wholesome Farms item. Consumers can find the expiration date and the plant code on the top of the gable top package. The UPC code will either be located on the back or the side panel of the gable top carton. No other Great Value, Kroger or Wholesome Farms products are involved in this recall. Consumers who purchased the product may return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or exchange. The following wheat allergy alert is from the FAAN and the FDA on October 23, 2009.

Unilever United States Inc. is recalling mispackaged tubs of "Breyers All Natural Cookies & Cream Ice Cream" and "Breyers All Natural Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream" due to undeclared wheat. The tubs were mispackaged with lids describing the product as “Breyers All Natural Cookies and Cream Ice Cream” and the tub portion describing the product as “Breyers All Natural Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream.” The product inside the tubs is “Breyers® All Natural Cookies and Cream,” which contains wheat. The mispackaged product was distributed through retail stores in these locations and adjoining areas: AL, AZ, DE, FL, GA, MD, NJ, NY, OH, PA, Puerto Rico, SC, TN, VA, and Trinidad. The 1.5-quart (1.41 L) paperboard tubs bear UPC # 077567254245 and in combination with “Best If Used By” dates of FEB1711GH, FEB1811GH, and FEB1911GH. The following sulfite allergy alert is from the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets on October 22, 2009.

Agro Foods Inc., in Cliffside Park, New Jersey, is recalling "Agro Sun Dried Fruits and Nuts Tropical Mix” due to the presence of undeclared sulfites. The recalled "Agro Sun Dried Fruits and Nuts Tropical Mix” are packaged in 24 ounce (680 gram), round plastic tubs and coded best before 12/10 in black ink on the product label. Known distribution of the product is the New York Metropolitan area. Consumers who have purchased " Agro Sun Dried Fruits and Nuts Tropical Mix” should contact Agro Foods Inc. at 201-840-1566.

The following kashrus alert is from Post-Tribune dated October 9, 2009 and the OU.

The Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America has filed a lawsuit against Luke Oil for using their OU symbol that indicates a product is kosher. Pictures included in the lawsuit show the trademark, a U in a circle, appearing next to the word "Luke" in various parts of the Luke convenience stores, including above a wall of food and on a cup for fountain drinks.

The following health alert is from Wins and foodsafety.ksu.edu on October 12, 2009.

Living Foods Inc. said Tuesday it is taking the action in response to the state's investigation into a salmonella outbreak linked to alfalfa sprouts that has sickened at least 12 people in Michiganthe outbreak, although there is no laboratory test results showing that the company's alfalfa sprouts were contaminated or caused the illnesses. The sprouts were distributed to retail stores and food-service facilities with a sell-by date of October 22 or earlier.
