The following health alert is from the FDA on April 30, 2009 .

KLEEN-PAK FOODS, Milwaukee WI is recalling its 10 ounce and 1 pound packages of fresh spinach because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonell. The recalled spinach was distributed locally in retail stores and food wholesalers in Wisconsin, the Chicago area, and Minnesota. The product comes in 10 ounce and 1 pound packages marked with a use by date of 4/29, 4/30, and 5/01 Consumers who have purchased 10 ounce packages of curly leaf spinach are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1 414-481-4878.

The following British kashrus alert is from the LBD on April 30, 2009 .
Walkers Salt & Vinegar Crisps, listed on p.48 of The Really Jewish Food Guide 2009 as approved and Parev, have just changed formulation and are now Dairy. The new, Dairy crisps can be identified by checking the ingredients declaration on the pack, which now includes lactose and milk powder

The following Canadian change in certification is from the COR on April 30, 2009 .
The Kashruth Council of Canada wishes to advise the community that Cara Airline Solutions a provider of kosher airline meals is no longer under COR supervision.

The following Canadian change in certification is from the MK on April 30, 2009 .
All meals prepared by Hamasbia Maple / Cara Kitchen in Toronto are certified MK Kosher Lemehadrin. All meat products are Glatt Kosher. All dairy products are Cholov Yisroel.

At this time it is best not to buy Chometz from Smart and Final stores.

FROM THE RCC:
All RCC-supervised establishments have sold their Chometz and one may buy from them after Pesach.
The RCC was not successful in convincing 99 Cent Only Stores to do a Mechira this year. Additionally, a Mechirah was done for the following establishments*:

  • Erewhon
  • Sadaf / Soofer Company
  • Wine & Liquor Depot
  • West Pico Foods
    (*in accordance with Igros Moshe Vol.1 resp. 149 ; vol.2 resp. 91 and other Poskim. See Piskei Teshuvos 448-83)

The following revised South African kashrus notice is from the UOS on April 28, 2009 .

Further to yesterdays notice regarding mislabeled baked goods at Genesis Super Spar, following a thorough investigation, we are satisfied that the mislabeling was due to an administrative error and the products in question are indeed kosher. We apologise for any confusion and inconvenience caused to both consumers and management of the store.
