The following kashrus nitice is from the Chicago Rabbinical Council on December 24, 2008.

Today's Temptations, Chicago, IL, bakes several different varieties of cakes and breads, all under the certification of the cRc. Some of the cakes may list some dairy ingredients on the package such as whey or cheese. The ingredients have been reformulated and, regardless of the listed ingredients, ALL of their products are pareve, Pas Yisroel.

The following health alert is from WCLO and FSNET on December 22, 2008.

A Wisconsin-based sprout grower is removing alfalfa sprouts and certain sprout mixes from store shelves after routine food safety tests. The State Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection says four-ounce packages of alfalfa sprouts, spicy sprouts, crunchy sprouts and onion sprouts sold by Sunrise Farms of Neenah are being recalled. The other sprout mixes produced by Sunrise Farms are not part of the recall. There have been no reports of illness, although the sprouts tested positive for Salmonella.

Pleased be advised that Block & Barrel Hot Dog Buns with the OK-D symbol on the label distributed by SYSCO CORPORATION is NOT certified by OK Kosher Certification. Any product found with the OK symbol is unauthorized. This product is being recalled.

  1. SNOWFLAKE FLOUR: Due to incorrect information given to us by the manufacturer, some Snowflake flour presently on the shelf is already Chodosh! Please check carefully.

The following allergy alert is from the FDA on December 13, 2008.

Kashi Company, LaJolla, CA is recalling a limited number of canisters of Kashi GOLEAN Powder Chocolate Energy Shake Mix because they contain undeclared milk. The product is packaged in a 14.8 oz – canister with a bar code of 18627 71000. Canisters with a Better if Used by Date stamped on the bottom of the canister between the dates of JAN 17 2009 and NOV 15 2009 are included in this alert. The recall was initiated after it was discovered that a limited number of Kashi GOLEAN Chocolate Energy Shake mix canisters did not declare whey caseinate, a milk ingredient, in the ingredient statement.
Consumers who have a Kashi GOLEAN Chocolate Energy Shake Mix canister with a bar code of 18627 71000 and Better if Used by Date stamped on the bottom between the dates of JAN 17 2009 and NOV 15 2009 should call the Kashi Consumer Response center at 1-877-747-2467.

The following revised allergy notice is from the FAAN on December, 2008.

Kraft Foods would like to notify you that a new product – Crystal Light Hunger Satisfaction powdered beverage in Strawberry Banana flavor – will be distributed to supermarkets and other retail outlets beginning December 1, 2008. This item is unique among Crystal Light varieties in that it contains whey, a milk protein. It will be labeled as containing milk in two places on the package. Please continue to read all labels for allergen information. For more information, customers may call (800) 431-1002.
This product is dairy- cholov stam and bears an OK-D.

The following voluntary recall is from the Consumer Product Safety Commission on December 17, 2008.

“Bagi Shumanit” Super Cold Grease Remover imported to the US from Israel by Fantastic Distributors, Brooklyn, N.Y. is packaged in a white 26.4 fl oz. (750 ml) bottle with a trigger sprayer has been recalled because direct contact with this substance can cause burns to consumers’ skin and eyes. The product lacks required special packaging and warning label. It was sold at various grocery stores in NY, NJ and CT from April 2000 through September 2008 for about $5.
Consumers should immediately pour any remaining product into the toilet, using care to avoid splashing. Consumers should return the empty bottle to the store where the product was purchased for a full refund.
