The following kashrus alert is from the Chicago Rabbinical Council on April 10, 2008.

Although all of the Jewish owned companies under cRc certification sell their chometz for Pesach, the following Jewish owned bakeries will be producing during Pesach: Bulldog Bakery, Solomon Gourmet, Eli's Cheesecake & Today's Temptations. All products manufactured by these companies during Pesach will NOT bear the cRc logo on the package. Consumers should be aware of packaging not bearing the cRc logo when purchasing any of these products after Pesach.

The following egg allergy alert is from the FAAN on April 8, 2008.

United Dairy Farmers, Inc., is recalling “Homemade Brand Special Recipe Wild Berry Parfait Ice Cream” due to undeclared egg. The product was distributed through retail stores in IL, IN, KY, MI, and OH. The product is packaged in 1.75-qt. containers with code 32007. Consumers may return the product to the place of purchase for a refund. Consumers with questions may call (800) 833-1177.

The following health alert the BostonBusiness.com on April 7, 2008.

Boston Beer Co., the Boston brewer of Samuel Adams craft beers, said it is recalling an undetermined amount of beer because of defective bottles that may contain glass particles. The company said the defective bottles came from a glass company that provides Boston Beer with about a quarter of its glass bottles. The "small grains or bits of glass" were discovered during a quality control operation at the firm's Cincinnati brewery, Boston Beer said in a statement. The problem was confirmed Friday, and was traced to bottles coming from a single manufacturing plant. Only Samuel Adams beers in 12-ounce brown glass bottles are involved in the recall. Potentially dangerous bottles are embossed around the bottom with the code N35 followed by OI . Consumers who purchased beer in potentially defective bottles are urged to discard the beer and bottles. They can register for a refund online at consumerinfo.samadams.com . They also can call 888- 674-5159 for more information.

A Kashruth Alert regarding the reliability of Mexican meat & poultry products was allegedly disseminated by the Orthodox Union. In fact, the Orthodox Union did not disseminate this alert in any fashion and does not have any knowledge regarding the Shechita processes in Mexico.

The following health alert is from the FDA on April 5, 2008.

Malt-O-Meal, Minneapolis, MN announced today that it is voluntarily recalling its unsweetened Puffed Rice and unsweetened Puffed Wheat Cereals produced with "Best If Used By" codes between April 8, 2008 (coded as "APR0808") and March 18, 2009 (coded as "MAR1809") because they may have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled product was distributed nationally, marketed under the Malt-O-Meal brand and as some private label brands including Acme, America's Choice, Food Club, Giant, Hannaford, Jewel, Laura Lynn, Pathmark, Shaw's, ShopRite, Tops and Weis Quality. Consumers who have purchased any products covered by this recall are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-877-665-9331. Please be advised that as of March 31, 2008 cheeses produced by Joseph Gallo Farms are no longer certified by OK KOSHER CERTIFICATION Cheeses packaged with the OK symbol on the label and a “Use By” date on or before September 27, 2008 were produced and packaged under OK supervision and certification.
