The following Canadian health alert is from the CFIA on February 25, 2014.

Aquafuchsia Foods Inc. is recalling Aquafuchsia brand alfalfa sprout product from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination. Consumers should not consume the recalled product described below. The following product has been sold in Quebec.

The following health alert is from the FDA on February 20, 2014.

Falafel King of Boulder, Colorado is voluntarily recalling 10 ounce containers of Hatch Green Chile Hummus and 8.5 ounce Hatch Green Chile Wraps because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The recalled Hatch Green Chile Hummus and Hatch Green Chile Wraps were distributed to retail stores in certain areas of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Nebraska.
The Hatch Green Chile Hummus comes in a 10 ounce clear plastic container with a black-rimmed lid, the UPC #822986-10305-2 printed on the back label and a “Sell By” date beginning 02/14/2014 through 03/16/2014 printed just above the back label where the UPC / bar code is located. The Hatch Green Chile Wraps are individually wrapped in clear plastic wrap, the UPC #822986-70205-7 printed on the front label and a sticker printed with “Sell By” 02/28 through 02/27 on the back of the package.
The recall was the result of notification by the supplier of fresh green chili that there was a potential for the Listeria organism in the Bueno Foods roasted fresh green chili used in the Hatch Green Chile Hummus and the Hatch Green Chile Wraps. The Falafel King recall was a completely voluntary decision in order to protect the consumers. Falafel King immediately changed its supplier of fresh roasted green chili and now heats the chili to at least 165º F then cools it before adding it to the Hatch Green Chile Hummus and the Hatch Green Chile Wraps.
Consumers who have purchased Hatch Green Chile Hummus or Hatch Green Chile Wraps with the “Sell By” dates noted in this recall are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the Falafel King Corporate Office at 303-443-1346 Monday-Friday, 9:00a.m.–5:00p.m. MST.

The following allergen statement change is from the FARE" on February 24, 2014.

The Nature Valley Breakfast Biscuits have had a change in the Allergen Statement due to the addition of a new manufacturing facility.
The new product launched January 1, 2014; the cartons with the updated allergen statement will be on store shelves around March 1, 2014.

The new statement is: CONTAINS MILK, WHEAT INGREDIENTS; MAY CONTAIN PEANUT, ALMOND AND SOY INGREDIENTS.

The following safety is from the the FDA on February 11, 2014.

Evolution Fresh is initiating a voluntary product recall of approximately 1,700 bottles of “Organic Sweet Greens and Ginger” juice with a best by date of March 2, 2014. The juices, which make up less than half of one percent of total Evolution Fresh production, were sold beginning on January 18, 2014, only in California and Nevada at approximately 120 grocery stores. This product was not sold in Starbucks retail stores.
The company initiated the recall after identifying a small number of Organic Sweet Greens and Ginger juices with best by dates of March 2, 2014 that were swollen and is currently conducting an investigation.
Organic Sweet Greens and Ginger juices with other best by dates are not included in this recall, nor are any other Evolution Fresh products. This product was only sold at grocery retailers in California and Nevada. Customers in possession of the recalled product should not consume it and should discard it. Customers with questions may contact the company by phone at 1-800-794- 9986 to get a refund.

"It has come to our attention that Cumin Spice, imported by Spices Gan Eden are sold across Canada with the Badatz stamp, as well as the words 'Kosher for Passover'."
"Please be aware that this is a forgery and this company does not bearr Badatz certification throughout the year or Passover.
Any product exported with the Badatz certification mark, must bear the name of the manufacturer in Hebrew next to the Badatz certification mark."

The following peanut allergy alert is from the the FDA on February 19, 2014 and FDA on February 20, 2014.

Fannie May Confections Brands, Inc. (“Fannie May”) is issuing the following update regarding its previously announced voluntary recall of red heart shaped boxes of assorted chocolates.
The company initiated the voluntary recall on February 19, 2014. Fannie May Confections Brands, Inc. (“Fannie May”) is recalling 12,000 units of its 4.0 oz., red heart-shaped gift box of assorted chocolates because the box includes one piece of candy that contains peanuts, a known allergen, and the food ingredient label on the box did not state that the product contained peanuts. Fannie May decided to recall the products after a customer contacted one of our telephone customer service representatives to report that the ingredient label on the box of chocolates did not state it contained peanuts.
The product being recalled is a 4.0 oz., red heart-shaped gift box measuring 5 1/4” by 5 ½” in size that contains 8 pieces of assorted chocolates including one caramel/peanut candy. The red heart-shaped box has a rose motif foil paper with the name “Fannie May” in silver lettering along the right side of the box and a label in the upper left stating “Fannie May Assorted Chocolates NET WT. 4 oz. 113g.” The back of the box has a full nutritional label which also states: “This product has been produced on equipment shared with peanuts, treenuts, soybean, milk, eggs and wheat”.
The item is identified as SKU #77202 with the UPC number on the label of 0 52745 96000 2. Lot information on this product is 13344, 13345, 13361, 14010, and 14014.
Fannie May Confections Brands, Inc. determined that the 12,000 boxes of chocolates were available for sale beginning January 10, 2014 in up to 450 drug stores, grocery stores and gift shops in seven (7) states: Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona and Florida. Retailers that sold the product include, but are not limited to, Walgreens, Hallmark Gift Shops, Jewel Grocers and other independent retailers. This particular gift box of assorted chocolates was not available nor offered for sale in any of the 100+ Fannie May retail stores, or through the Fannie May website located at: wwwfanniemay.com.
This voluntary recall does not affect any other products from Fannie May Chocolates.
Consumers that have purchased the Fannie May 4.0 oz. red heart-shaped box of assorted chocolates are urged to dispose of the product.

Foodfest International 2000 Inc. is recalling Elite brand Bittersweet Chocolate from the marketplace because it contains milk which is not declared on the label. This product contains dairy, as indicated in the ingredient and allergen statements. Some packaging was printed with a plain OU, without the D – Dairy designation. Corrective actions have been implemented.
