Publix Recalls Nut, Seed and Raisin Mix Due To Possible Health Risk

June 1, 2016 - From the FDA:

Publix Super Markets is issuing a voluntary recall for Nut, Seed and Raisin mix because it may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes. Publix received notification of the potential contamination from the sunflower seed supplier, Flagstone Foods, who were effected by an expanded recall of SunOpta. The containers of prepackaged nut, seed and raisin mix were sold at Publix retail produce departments in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and North Carolina with a UPC of 000-41415-08886, 002-25143-00000, 004-00002-10396, and include all date lots.
Consumers who have purchased the products in question may return the product to their local store for a full refund. Publix customers with additional questions may call the Publix Consumer Relations department at 1-800-242-1227 or by visiting the website at www.publix.com. Customers can also contact the US Food and Drug Administration at 1-888-SAFEFOOD (1-888-723-3366).

Clif Bar & Company Issues Voluntary Recall of Three Flavors: CLIF BAR Nuts & Seeds Energy Bars, CLIF BAR Sierra Trail Mix Energy Bars, and CLIF Mojo Mountain Mix Trail Mix Bars Due to Possible Health Risks

June 2, 2016 - From the FDA and the CFIA:

Emeryville, CA. Clif Bar & Company is initiating a voluntary recall of CLIF BAR® Nuts & Seeds energy bars, CLIF BAR® Sierra Trail Mix energy bars, and CLIF® Mojo® Mountain Mix® trail mix bars, sold nationally, after its ingredient supplier, SunOpta, was found to have distributed sunflower kernels that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes (L.mono).
Only the flavors meeting the following criteria are affected by the recall:

  • CLIF BAR® Nuts & Seeds energy bar all pack configurations with “best by” date ranges starting 08JUN16 through 21JAN17
  • CLIF BAR® Sierra Trail Mix energy bar all pack configurations with “best by” date ranges starting 05JUN16 through 24MAR17
  • CLIF® Mojo® Mountain Mix® trail mix bar all pack configurations with “best by” date ranges starting 16JUN16 through 02FEB17
    People who have purchased any of the above products are urged not to consume the products and to destroy it. All retailers who received the products are being contacted. Any questions can be directed to 1-888-851-8456.

FURTHER EXPANDED Recall Period of Certain Sunflower Kernel Products Due to Possible Contamination by Listeria Monocytogenes

June 1, 2016 - From the FDA:

Acting out of an abundance of caution, SunOpta has decided to further expand its voluntary recall of certain sunflower kernel products due to the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
This further expanded recall includes certain sunflower kernel products originating from SunOpta’s facility in Crookston, Minn. between May 31, 2015 and January 31, 2016.
Recalled retail sunflower kernel items were sold in clear printed plastic packages and are marked with Best By Dates located on the front or back of the packages. Recalled snack bars were sold in boxes of 12 units. Listed below are details regarding the recalled items:
The recalled products are Sunrich Naturals Sunlower Kernels-Roasted and Salted, Sunrich Naturals Sunflower Kernels-Chili Lime, Sunrich Naturals Sunflower Kernels-Blazin’ Hot, Spitz Salted Sunflower Kernels (Only Available In Canada), Spitz Dill Pickle Sunflower Kernels (Only Available In Canada), Kar’s Sunflower Kernel Roasted and Salted, Planters Sunflower Kernels, and Navitas Naturals Superfood+ snack bars: Cacao Cranberry, Goji Acai, Hemp Peanut, Maca Maple.

Recalled products were distributed to distribution centers in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Canada and may be redistributed to other states.
Consumers are urged not to consume these products. Consumers who purchased these products may take them back to the store where they purchased them for a refund or simply discard them. Consumers seeking information may email contactus@sunopta.com or call 1-888-886-4428 Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time.
Retailers and wholesale customers should check their inventories and shelves to confirm that none of the recalled products are present or available for purchase by consumers or in warehouse inventories. Meadow Gold Dairy in Boise Conducts Voluntary Recall of Whipping Cream and Half and Half Because of Possible Health Risk

June 1, 2016 - From the FDA:

The Meadow Gold Dairy plant in Boise is voluntarily recalling Meadow Gold brand Old Style Whipping Cream and Meadow Gold DairyPure brand Whipping Cream and Half and Half due to insufficient pasteurization. It is possible that pathogens present in raw milk, including Salmonella, Campylobacter, Listeria, and/or E. coli, may have survived and, if ingested, could cause serious or life threatening issues. Meadow Gold Dairy has received no reports of illnesses related to the affected product to date and is removing the product from the market. Distribution of the affected product was limited in scope. Therefore, consumers should only be concerned with products carrying the following Individual Universal Product Codes (UPCs) and plant code 16-05:

No other Meadow Gold Dairy products are affected by this recall.

The recall involves approximately 10,000 units of the affected product, which was distributed in four states including Idaho, Oregon, Wyoming and Utah through numerous retail outlets and food service settings. The company is actively notifying customers and is in the process of retrieving the affected product.

During a routine records review, we discovered that the product may have been under-processed. Meadow Gold Dairy has ceased distribution of the affected product and recovery is actively underway. Consumers who have this product should not consume it. They should discard it and may return the product package to the place of purchase for a full refund or exchange. Consumers with questions can contact the Company at 1-800-587-2259 Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm central time.

Kashrus information on Dasani Sparkling Beverages

June 2, 2016 - From the Atlanta Kashruth Commission and confirmed by the OU:

Dasani Sparkling Beverages are OU certified. The OU symbol does not appear on some cans. Dasani has the OU symbol next to the date stamp on the inkjet until new cans with the OU symbol can be produced.

UWS Dunkin Donuts No Longer ‘Fully’ Kosher

June 2, 2016 - From the National Kosher (Rabbi Aaron D. Mehlman):

"Please be advised that, as per ownership's decision, the Dunkin Donuts located on Amsterdam and 94th Street in Manhattan is no longer FULLY kosher."
"In the immediate future, we will post a LIMITED KASHRUS CERTIFICATE which will allow kosher customers to purchase beverages and (almost) all bakery products in the store."
"These items, however, cannot be cut, sliced, heated or toasted in store and NO kosher sandwiches will be available for purchase."
"Kosher cream cheese, butter and jelly packets will be available for "take out." Sorry for the inconvenience!"

All Natural Gourmet Lox and Chive Cream Cheese Spread Mislabled Pareve

May 25, 2016 - From Kashrus Magazine and confirmed by the WK:
All Natural Gourmet Lox and Chive Cream Cheese Spread (All Natural Foods Corp., 111 Ditmas Avenue, Brooklyn, NY) mistakenly bears a "WK-Pareve" designation (Rabbi Yehuda Kelemer) rather than a "WK-Dairy" designation. All of the containers presently on the shelves are being resealed with the correct Dairy seal. All future productions will no longer be under the “WK” certification.

Kosher Alert Dole Fruit'n Mango in Mango Pudding

Dole Fruit'n Pudding, Mango in Mango Pudding: The Orthodox Union certifies Dole Mango in Mango Pudding as an OU D-Dairy product.
