The following reissued kashrus alert is from the OK Kosher Certification on December 23, 2015.

KABIR’S BAKERY INC. All baked goods: Kabir’s bakery Inc., 19 5th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11231: KOSHER CERTIFICATION HAS BEEN REVOKED.
Although OK Kosher Certification has removed certification from Kabir’s Bakery on December 4, 2015, we have reason to believe that their products are still being distributed with the OK kosher symbol at various point of sale locations.
Action Please contact the OK Kosher Certification office (718-756-7500; info@ok.org) with store location if you see these products being sold. Pictures of the label are always helpful. Corrective action is being pursued.

The following kashrus alert is from the MK on December 18, 2015.

The MK Wishes to inform the public that Neige, Milk Chocolate Snaps, Dark Chocolate Snaps and Milk Chocolate Snaps produced by Cebon has been inadvertantly mislabeled with a MK pareve symbol. These products are in fact dairy. Corrective action has been taken.

The following insect infestation alert is from the Vaad of Denver on December 20, 2015.

Fresh Pineapples, insect concerns: Mites have being found in the crown and outer rind of fresh pineapple and also the inside the blossom cups and crevices. The pineapple should be peeled until only yellow fruit is visible and then rinsed. Since the insects tend to crawl, the cutting surface should be washed and the crown and rind should not be used as décor on food platers.

The following food safety alert is from the FDA on December 21, 2015.

The Swinomish Fish Company is initiating a voluntary recall of packages of both Traditional and Peppered flavors of NATIVE CATCH SALMON BACON with a "BEST BY" date of 1/23/16 and 3/16/16 distributed in the Western Washington and Florida areas. The Native Catch Salmon Bacon has the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum.
No illnesses or reactions have been reported to date and no other Native Catch products are involved in this recall. The potential for contamination was noted after a routine Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) inspection discovered that the product had potentially been under processed.
The Native Catch Salmon Bacon products subject to this recall are:

  • Peppered flavor with UPC: 7 83583 27965 9, packaged in 8 oz. and 14 oz. clear vacuum bag with Best By codes 1/23/16 and 3/16/16.
  • Traditional flavor with UPC: 7 51778 15900 0, packaged in 8 oz. and 14 oz. clear vacuum bags with BEST BY codes 1/23/16 and 3/16/16.

Recalled products were shipped to locations in the states of Washington and Florida between the dates of August 10, 2015 through December 11, 2015 This recall is being made with the knowledge of the WSDA and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
All retail outlets that sell these products are being notified to remove the product with affected date code from their shelves and warehouses immediately. Consumers are urged to dispose of the products or return to the stores where it was purchased.
Consumers may contact Swinomish Fish Company at 1-360-466-0176 weekdays from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Pacific Time for a replacement or full refund, as well as with general inquires.

The following peanut, wheat and egg allergy alert is from the FDA on December 18, 2015.

Mars Chocolate North America Issues Allergy Alert Voluntary Recall on Undeclared Peanuts, Wheat and Egg Ingredient for DOVE® Chocolate Assortment Snowflakes, 24.0 oz. Bag, Sold Only at One Major Retailer with Stores Across the U.S.
Item# 10139802 - UPC# 400050521 LOT CODE: 537CG4PA30, 537DG4PA30, 538AG4PA30, 538AM4PA30, 541AG4PA20, 542EM4PA20
This item is a purple 24 oz. bag clearly marked with DOVE® Chocolate Assortment Snowflakes branding on the front of packaging. The code dates and UPC code are located on the back of the packaging on the lower right side.
Approximately 6,700 cases of this item may contain some SNICKERS®, MILKY WAY® and TWIX® pieces that contain peanuts, wheat and/or eggs, but these ingredients are not listed on the outer package ingredient label. People who have allergies to peanuts, wheat and/or eggs have the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. No adverse reactions have been reported to date.
This item was shipped and distributed to only one retailer and sold at retail food stores starting September 19, 2015 through December 1, 2015 to the following locations: AZ, GA, MA, MS, OH, VA, CA, IA, MD, NH, OK, VT, CO, IL, ME, NJ, OR, WA, CT, IN, MI, NM, PA, WI, DE, KS, MN, NV, RI, WY, FL, KY, MO, NY and TX.
The issue was identified after a consumer notified Mars Chocolate North America of finding a SNICKERS® piece in this Dove Chocolate Assortment Snowflakes, 24.0 oz. bag.
Mars Chocolate is working with the impacted retailer to ensure that the recalled product is removed from sale. In the event that consumers believe they have purchased this item and have allergy concerns, they should return this product to the store where they purchased it for a full refund. Consumers with questions or concerns may call our toll-free number at 1-800-551-0907.

These products were sold at Walmart.

The following food safety alert is from the FDA Enforcement Report on December 16, 2015.

Saputo Dairy Foods USA, LLC initiated a recall of the following products due to the presence of undeclared Red # 40, Yellow # 5, Yellow # 6 and Blue # 1 food colorings.

  1. Essential EVERYDAY Chocolate Flavored Dairy Whipped Topping, Made with Real Cream, Ultra-Pasteurized Grade A, NET WT 13 OZ (368g);
  2. HyVee Chocolate FLAVORED WHIPPED TOPPING ULTRA-PASTEURIZED GRADE A - SWEETENED, NET WT 13 OZ (368g);
  3. Lucerne DAIRY FARMS Chocolate Whipped Topping MADE WITH REAL CREAM, NET WT 13 OZ (368g).

Trader Joe's Issues Voluntary Recall of Triple Ginger Brew

Trader Joe's, Monrovia, CA is issuing a voluntary recall of all codes purchased from 11/9/15 through 12/14/15 of Triple Ginger Brew (SKU 51857) due to reports of unopened bottles potentially bursting. Although the ginger brew does not pose a health risk if consumed, all product has been removed from store shelves and destroyed. No injuries or illnesses have been reported to date.
This precautionary action comes after the company received inquiries from customers that had experienced unopened bottles shattering or bursting. The potentially affected product was distributed to Trader Joe's stores nationwide. Trader Joe's Triple Ginger Brew is sold in 25.4 FL OZ (750 mL) glass bottles.
Customers who have purchased the Trader Joe's Triple Ginger Brew are encouraged to handle it with care and dispose of it immediately in an outside container. Trader Joe's will provide a refund to customers who purchased the Triple Ginger Brew at any of their store locations. Customers can call the company's Customer Relations at (626) 599-3817 6:00AM-6:00PM PST, Monday - Friday, with any questions.

The following egg and milk allergy alert is from the FDA on December 9, 2015.

Pine Valley Foods, Inc. is voluntarily recalling Crazy about Cookies Pre-portioned varieties after learning that a labeling misstatement on the sugar cookie dough & walnut chocolate chunk cookie dough that was sold and distributed. The sugar cookie dough in question did not properly disclose "milk" as an ingredient or allergen. The walnut chocolate chunk cookie dough in question did not properly disclose "egg" as an ingredient or allergen.
People who have allergies to milk or egg run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. People who have an allergy or sensitivity to milk and egg, or are lactose intolerant should not consume these products. No other Pine Valley Food's products are affected, and the recalled products may be safely consumed by those who do not have an allergy or sensitivity to milk nor egg.
The Pine Valley Food's cookie dough products that are affected by the recall are clearly labeled with a product description and date code on the packaging:
