Clearfood has tested turkey products using DNA testing.
- 13.5% of the 158 turkey product samples we tested were problematic.
- 7% of the 158 turkey product samples contained substitutions.
The most likely culprit was chicken added in (in 8 out of 11 of the substitution cases). They found pork substitution in 2 out of 11 of the substitution cases and saw beef in 1 out of 11 substitution cases.
- 1% of the 158 turkey product samples were missing key ingredients falsely listed on their labels. 1 product even contained no turkey even though it was listed as an ingredient on the label and marketed as a turkey product. 1 product included no beef, even though it was listed on the label.
- 5.5% of samples had hygienic issues, including traces of human DNA. (ed. note: This means sanitation issues.)
