The following Passover alert is from the COR Detroit on March 21, 2012.

EACH INDIVIDUAL LABEL SHOULD ALWAYS BE CHECKED FOR PESACH CERTIFICATION. Consumers are cautioned not to take for granted that a product is Kosher for Pesach simply because it is in the Kosher for Pesach section of their store, or because a "Kosher for Pesach" sign is posted. Each year there are numerous instances, even in Jewish stores, of non-Pesach products mistakenly being mixed in with Pesach products, usually because their labels are almost identical. This occurs frequently with Telma soup mixes and cubes, Osem, Gefen, Haddar, Manischewitz, Empire and other brands of products that have both Pesach and non-Pesach versions of the same products with similar labels. Storekeepers, likewise, should not take for granted that everything received in their Pesach shipment, even from a Jewish distributor, is indeed Pesach certified; non-Pesach products are frequently inadvertently mixed in. There have also been instances where the outsides of cases were marked Kosher for Pesach, but the products inside were not. Each individual label must always be checked for Pesach certification.

MULTIPLE CERTIFICATIONS: Some brands, e.g. Osem, do not bear the same certification on all of their products. Each product should be checked for a reliable certification. - In addition, some brands, especially those from Israel, bear more than one certification on a single package, but not all those certifications include approval for Pesach. In particular, the Badatz of Eida Hachareidis symbol often states specifically that its endorsement does not include Pesach. All products should be carefully examined for a reliable Pesach endorsement.

The following British Passover alert is from the London Beth Din on March 7, 2012.

Warning: Please be aware that the KLBD has no control over the stocking of the 'Kosher for Passover' products in supermarkets. When purchasing products for Pesach from any non-supervised establishment, you are advised to check that each and every item bears a reliable kosher l'Pesach hechsher and does not contain kitniyot.

Ed. note: This is true everywhere.

The following Sephardic Passover alert is from the JSOR on March 18, 2012.

There had been a concern regarding the dried beans for Passover, perhaps based on the comment that we made last year. We have verified that the dried beans such as Goya, Vittaroz or Clics that are packed in 1 lb bags are pure and do not come in contact with questionable ingredients. There are some varieties, such as red lentils in the supermarket that are polished with vegetable oil, making them a year round kashrut question. They say vegetable oil in the ingredients, and should not be used. Some families do not have the custom of eating dried beans, yet eat the same varieties in fresh or frozen. For those using the dry, check three times before Pesach.

The following Dallas Passover alert is from the Dallas Kashruth Commission on March 16, 2012.

As you know, for the last 40 or so years the Vaad Hakashrus has supervised a production of kosher for Passover milk for Dallas and other cities throughout Texas. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we regret to inform you that this year will be an exception, as none of the local dairies have agreed to produce KFP milk. We expect that next year DK will once again have a local production of KFP milk. As always, DK will do its best to make this happen.
As you may know, on Passover it is preferable for one to consume certified KFP milk when it is available, so this year one may have a dilemma as to what to do. One may ask, "What milk do we consume this year when KFP is not readily available for purchase?"
The options for KFP consumers this year are limited, but there are two reasonable choices:

  1. The Cholov Yisroel milk available at Tom Thumb/Preston & Forest, Tom Thumb/Coit & Campbell and Albertsons/Hillcrest & Arapaho carry Lamers Cholov Yisroel Milk which is KFP . It can be found in the KFP section of each of the three markets. The problems one may encounter with Lamers milk is that it is more expensive and comes in a limited variety of sizes and types of milk. Although retailers did order more than usual Lamers milk this year, be aware that this milk will probably sell out quickly due to the anticipated high demand.
  2. The other option for KFP consumers is to buy ALL the milk needed for the 10 days of Passover before Friday, April 6th at 10:58am. This option only applies to unflavored white milk and not for chocolate milk or any flavored milks. The reason the purchase of milk is allowed before Passover is that any trace of chometz from the vitamins or equipment will become nullified ONLY prior to Passover. Therefore, buying white milk after Friday, April 6th at 10:58am is not considered approved for kosher for Passover use!
If you have any questions concerning this option do not hesitate to call DK for assistance.

The following Passover alert is from the Chicago Rabbinical Council on March 16, 2012.

The Passover Shopping Guide had listed baby powder as being acceptable for Pesach without any Passover certification. We have now discovered that some baby powders may contain oat flour. As such, baby powders are only acceptable if they only contain talc, talcum powder, corn starch, or other innocuous ingredients.
