The following Passover alert for Sephardim who eat kitniot is from the Chicago Rabbinical Council for April, 2004.

For those who have the custom of eating kitniyos on Pesach, please note that regular Non- Pesach soda may be chometz and one cannot assume that it is only a kitniyos (corn syrup) issue. Soy Milk may contain a large amount of barley or other starches and would be chometz. Additionally, Rice is only acceptable without additives (this includes vitamins). This year the Chief Sephardic of Israel, Rabbi Shlomo Amar has joined the Badatz in banning commercial production and sale of Kosher for Passover Cumin. This is due to the fact that Cumin, which is imported to Israel from the Far East, often includes trace of wheat and oats. One should consult with their Rabbi on this matter.
