Dear Friends:
This Passover Supplement has been compiled as an addition to our annual “Passover In The Jewish Home” guide book. We hope that this product supplement will assist you in preparing for the Holiday and planning your Yom Tov shopping. Information about Passover products has been gathered from a number of sources, including all of the major certification agencies in the United States, to make a “one-stop” source for product information.
cRc policy, as directed by our Av Beis Din HaRav Gedalia D. Schwartz Shlita, is that body creams, face and body powders, and polishes (furniture and silver) do not require special certification to be used on Passover. We have decided to include some of these types of products that have been researched and found to be free of chometz on this list for those who would like to be more stringent.
HaRav Schwartz Shlita, has further ruled that medicinal non-chewable Tablets, Pills and Capsules also do not require Passover certification. For chewable or for liquid medication, please be in touch with your rabbi. For further details, see the attached memo. A number of common over-the-counter medications are included on this list. These medications have been researched to the best of our ability and found to be chometz free. Most of the information that is gathered on medications is in the form of self-reporting by the manufacturer.
Prescription medication ordered by your doctor, for serious illness, should be taken on Passover without regard for the components of the medications.
We acknowledge the assistance of Rabbi Gershon Bess, the OU, The OK Laboratories, Breuers and Rabbi Heber of the Star-K.
The cRc Staff, Officers and Members of the Chicago Rabbinical Council join me in wishing you and your family a Chag Kasher V’sameiach.
Important: In compliance with the Halacha one should wait until 8:50 P.M. on Motzoei Pesach before purchasing anything from Dunkin Donut's at 3132 W. Devon (the only certified Kosher Dunkin Donut's in Greater Chicago).
The following is the policy of HaRav Gedaliah Dov Schwartz, the cRc Rabbinic authority:
