The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Central Smith Creamery are warning the public and food service institutions, such as hospitals and nursing homes, not to serve or consume the ice cream sundae cups described below because the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The following table lists the affected ice cream sundae cups. These cups were prepared for Sysco Corporation, Toronto, Ontario and were distributed primarily to food service institutions such as restaurants, hospitals, day care centres and nursing homes.

Testlab Bacterial Cultures (also known as Probiotics) (Including Lactobacillus acidophilus, and other cultures), Brewster Food Co. - Reseda, CA: A limited number of lots of these products were labeled incorrectly with a plain OU. These products are DAIRY. Future packaging will be corrected.

Country Road 8kg Industrial Size Feta Cheese, t Food Imports- Lafayette, CA: This product, which bears an OUD symbol, was distributed to industrial users on the West Coast. This product is not kosher and has been recalled.
Please note that Country Road retail-size feta cheese in 16-oz. and 32-oz. plastic containers is OU-certified when bearing the OUD symbol and OU holograms, as stipulated in the product's letter of certification.
The following health alert is from the FDA on February 25, 2010.
Wholesome Spice, Brooklyn, NY is recalling all lots of 25 lb boxes of Crushed Red Pepper sold between 4/6/09 and 1/20/10, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The 25 lb boxes of Crushed Red pepper were distributed in the Northeastern U.S.. The product was not sold on the retail level to consumers. The Crushed Red Pepper product is packaged in a clear plastic bag which is placed inside of a cardboard box with an adhesive white label with a blue border and blue and black lettering. The brand name on the product labels is WHOLESOME SPICES. The product name is listed as CRUSHED RED PEPPER. The firm was informed that samples of its product have tested positive for Salmonella. The firm is currently working with the FDA to determine how the contamination occurred. Manufacturers who have purchased 25 lb boxes of WHOLESOME SPICES brand Crushed Red Pepper are urged not to use the product and to recall any product they further distributed. The following health alert is from the FDA on March 5, 2010.
Mincing Overseas Spice Company of Dayton, NJ announced today that it is recalling black pepper Lots 3258 and 3309 because of possible contamination with Salmonella. Black pepper was not distributed at retail level and was shipped to FL, IA, IL, IN, MA, OK, NJ, NY, PA, RI, TX and WI. The black pepper was sold in 50 lb, 25 lb, and 20 lb cartons with Mincing Overseas Spice Company's name. Customers that purchased black pepper from any parts of Lots 3258 and 3309 should place these lots or any spice blends made from these lots under their control on hold and contact Mincing Overseas Spice Company at 732-355-9944. With regard to any spice blends or other foods made from these lots, companies should contact their local FDA Recall Coordinator to determine the appropriate action and if a sub recall is needed.

The following health alert is from the FDA posted onMarch 4, 2010.
Basic Food Flavors Inc. of Las Vegas, Nev. has recalled its flavor enhancer called hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) because the product may be contaminated with the bacterium Salmonella Tennessee. At this time, no illnesses associated with this contamination have been reported to the FDA.
Basic Food Flavors sold its HVP to other food manufacturers and distributors for use in producing other food products. Only HVP from Basic Food Flavors is associated with this recall.

Please be advised that the Atlanta Kashruth Commission discontinued its supervision of Eurochem International Corporation, 600 Wendell Court, Atlanta, GA 30336 in 2006. It has never certified ZUCRA SO2.

The following health alert is from the FDA dated February 26, 2010.
Thumb Oilseed Producers' Cooperative of Ubly, MI. has recalled certain shipments of soybean grits and flour because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled soybean grits and flour were distributed to a limited group of wholesale customers located around the nation. These customers have been contacted by Thumb Oilseed and are reviewing this inventories and production processes and taking the necessary steps to protect consumer health, including, if necessary, sub recalls. The product is labeled with Soy Beginnings or Nexsoy brands; packaged in 40# paper bags. Feed is packaged in 1500# totes. (Lot numbers include TF121608 through TF012210, TG121608 through TG010510). The recall resulted from routine sampling programs conducted by the company and its wholesale customers. Thumb Oilseed has suspended production and distribution of the potential affected products and is cooperating with the US Food and Drug Administration and Michigan Department of Agriculture in investigating the situation. The recall does not involve soy oil products produced by Thumb Oilseed. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 989-658-2344 between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm EST Monday-Friday.
