National Frozen Foods Corporation Recalls Frozen Green Beans and Frozen Mixed Vegetables Because of Possible Health Risk

January 24, 2018 from FDA:

National Frozen Foods Corporation (NFFC) is voluntarily recalling a limited quantity of Not-Ready-To Eat Individually Quick Frozen (IQF) green beans and IQF mixed vegetables because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Following cooking preparation instructions on the labels of master cases or packages will effectively reduce the risk of exposure to this bacterium This press release includes recalled products distributed to foodservice accounts in bulk and packaged containers in AK, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, ID, IL, KS, MI, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, NV, OR, TN, TX, VA, and WA. The products being recalled listed below were distributed between August 18, 2017 and January 12, 2018. The recalled items can be identified by the date codes printed on the back of the 32oz. sized bag or the side of the master case. Brands include Bountiful Harvest Foundations, Bountiful Harvest Originals, Monarch, NW Treasure, Simplot Classic, Sysco Classic, Sysco Imperial, (No Brand Name), Valamont, The World's Harvest
Only the codes listed hereare affected by this recall.


Frozen food company recalls green beans after pet food recall

National Frozen Foods Corp. issued a Class I recall of individual quick frozen green beans because of potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination, according to notices posted by US Foods Inc. and the U.S. Department of Defense Commissary Agency.

The frozen food manufacturer issued its recall following the detection of Listeria monocytogenes in a third-party test by a downstream customer, a pet food company.

A notice from the U.S. Department of Defense Commissary Agency reported the following products sold in its commissary stores were included in the recall:


Additional products, supplied to other customers, may also have been recalled. However, no other related product recalls have yet been posted by the Food and Drug Administration.

Ed. note: I expect this recall to expand. Cook the vegetables to 165 degrees F. and be careful about cross contamination.

Please be advised that Frozen seafood imported from India by the company Pescanova España, S.L.U. has been found bearing an unauthorized OK Kosher symbol. Neither the producer nor the importer are certified by the OK. These products are NOT KOSHER. Corrective actions are being taken.

Evershing International Trading Company Recalls Frozen Shredded Coconut Because of Possible Health Risk

January 3, 2018 from the FDA:

Evershing International Trading Company is recalling Coconut Tree Brand Frozen Shredded Coconut, 16 oz., because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

This coconut product was distributed in Ohio, Massachusetts, Washington, California, and Oklahoma with redistribution to Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York Pennsylvania, Oregon, Florida, and Texas. This Frozen Shredded Coconut product is packaged in 16 ounces plastic bags. This is a complete recall of ALL Coconut Tree Brand Frozen Shredded Coconut currently on the market. Any customers who have this product should return the product to place of purchase for full refund. Customers may also contact Evershing International Trading Company at (408) 975-9660 during hours of operation, Monday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The issue was discovered by testing performed by the State of Massachusetts.

Springfield Smoked Fish Expands their Recall of Smoked Salmon Because of Possible Health Risk

December 19, 2017 from the FDA:

Springfield Smoked Fish of Springfield, MA is expanding their voluntary recall of smoked fish products because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Recalled products were distributed and sold at retail stores and wholesale establishments in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, Colorado, Ohio, Pennsylvania from May 2017 through December 2017. Product was also sold nationwide through online sales.
The initial recall was limited to 1lb pre-sliced Nova Salmon produced on 11/24/17. The recall expansion includes product produced between May 22, 2017 and December 12, 2017, the date the facility ceased production of the products.
These products were sold under the brand names Springfield Smoked Fish and Rachael’s Springfield Smoked Fish.

The recall expansion was initiated as a result of environmental and product sampling conducted by the firm. Retailers and wholesale customers should check their inventories and shelves to confirm that none of the recalled products are present or available for purchase by consumers or in warehouse inventories. Please contact Springfield Smoked Fish for disposal or return of the product.

Consumers are urged not to consume these products. Consumers who purchased these products may take them back to the store where they purchased them for a refund or simply discard them. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-413-737-8693, Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Empire Kosher Poultry Inc. Recalls Chicken Products Due To Possible Extraneous Material Contamination

November 9, 2017 from the USDA:

Empire Kosher Poultry, Inc., a Mifflintown, Pa. establishment, is recalling approximately 10,839 pounds of raw poultry products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically metal, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The raw chicken breast products were produced and packaged on Nov. 2, 2017. The following products are subject to recall: [View Labels here.

  • 4 to5.25-lbs. tray packages containing chicken breasts labeled “Empire KOSHER NATURAL Chicken Breasts, Boneless & Skinless” with case code 46375 and “Sell By” date 11/14/17.
  • 1 to1.25-lbs. tray packages containing chicken breasts labeled “Empire KOSHER NATURAL Chicken Breasts, Boneless & Skinless” with case code 7488 and “Sell By” date 11/16/17.
  • 2.5-lbs. tray packages containing chicken breasts labeled “Empire KOSHER NATURAL Chicken Breasts, Boneless & Skinless” with case code 7598 and “Sell By” date11/16/17.
  • 1 to1.25-lbs. tray packages containing chicken breasts labeled “Empire KOSHER NATURAL Chicken Breasts, Boneless & Skinless” with case code 92615 and “Sell By” date 11/17/17.
  • 1 to 1.25 –lbs. tray packages containing chicken breasts labeled “Empire KOSHER NATURAL Chicken Breasts, Boneless & Skinless” with case code 7888 and “Sell By” date 11/16/17.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-1015” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.
The problem was discovered on November 2, 2017 by an establishment employee who observed metal foreign material in a chicken breast while performing routine duties. The establishment took corrective actions to recover products before reaching commerce.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. FSIS has received no reports of injury or illness from consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
