Santa Barbara Smokehouse, Santa Barbara, CA is voluntary recalling the following brands and batches of cold smoked salmon produced and packed between December 17th and December 24th 2014 because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes,

Batch numbers found on the rear of the package: 200, 596, 4261, 5042, 5251, 5264, 5609, 5699, 5731, 5761, 5792, 5904, 5924, 5934, 5969, 5979, 6012, 6029, 6042, 6054, 6061, 6072, 6082, 6175, 6194, 6204, 6214, 6285, 6304, 6314, 6322, 6339, 6344, 6351, 6362, 6379, 6434, 6449, 6452, 6461, 6479, 6481, 6492, 6572, 6569, 6572, 6584, 6594, 6604, 6612, 6664, 6674, 6684.
From CDPH: the Santa Barbara Smokehouse’s recalled cold-smoked salmon was packed under the Cambridge House, Channel Island Smokehouse, Coastal Harbor, Santa Barbara Smokehouse and Harbor Point brand names, and has pack dates of 8-22-14, 9-17-14 through 9-19-14, and 12-17-14 through 12-24-14. The recalled products were vacuum-packed and distributed as both fresh and frozen products. The CDPH website has a list of the specific product names and codes affected by this recall and product photos.
CDPH recommends not eating any cold-smoked salmon manufactured by Santa Barbara Smokehouse with pack dates between 8-22-14 and 12-24-14. Other brands that may have also been packed during this time frame include: Fresh & Easy, Tetsujin and Imperial House. CDPH also recommends that anyone in possession of those products with those pack dates place the product into a garbage bag and put it in the trash.
Consumers who have purchased any of the above products are urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-805-966-9796.

The following peanut allergy alert is from the FDA on January 9,2015.

MorningStar Farms is issuing a voluntary and precautionary recall of certain code dates of Spicy Black Bean Burgers and Chipotle Black Bean Burgers because they may contain undeclared peanut. MorningStar Farms, Battlecreek, MI was notified by a third party supplier that one of the spice ingredients used in Spicy Black Bean Burgers and Chipotle Black Bean Burgers may inadvertently contain peanut, an allergen that is not declared on the products’ ingredient statements.

The following American and Canadian health alert is from the CFIA on January 7, 2015 with additional information at CFIA on January 9, 2015 and FoodManufacturing.com and the FDA on January 10,2015.

Bidart Bros., Bakersfield, CA is recalling apples shipped from its Shafter, California packing facility in 2014, prompted by a federal investigation of 32 listeria illnesses in 11 states, including the deaths.
Those 11 states are Arizona, California, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.
The company supplied the apples for two commercial caramel apple brands that are linked to illnesses. The Food and Drug Administration and the California Department of Public Health inspected the facility, finding listeria present on surfaces likely to come into contact with apples.
Consumers should not eat the Granny Smith and Gala apples being recalled by Bidart Bros. These apples can be sold under the brand names “Big B” and “Granny’s Best,” though, they could also be sold under other brand names or with no brand at all. Consumers who are buying or have recently bought Granny Smith or Gala apples should ask their retailers if the apples were supplied by Bidart Bros. Other varieties of apples and apples from other growers are not affected by the recall.

Canadian alert: Industry is recalling Granny Smith apples and Gala apples exported by Bidart Bros. in the United States (US) from the marketplace due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Identified importers of the recalled products include Beauvais Ltee. and Courchesne Larose. Consumers should not consume and retailers, restaurants and institutions should not sell or use the recalled products described below.
Furthermore, recalled products were imported by and sold at Coosemans Montreal Inc., located at 1605 rue de Beauharnois Ouest, Montréal, QC.

Coca Cola Zero, 2 liter pet bottle, UPC 49000 05014, The Coca Cola Company with a date code of DEC1514 CNB, Time Stamps: 12:19, 12:20, 12:21 and 12:22 has been recalled because of equipment malfunction led to ingredients to be blended at levels that are inconsistent with approved formulations.

The following Canadian kashrus announcement is from the COR on January 6, 2015.

Please be advised that COR certified Dr. Laffa was acquired by a restaurant franchise called Famous Laffa. Non kosher locations will be separately owned and called "Famous Laffa" and kosher locations will be called “Famous Laffa Kosher” as is done with other similar franchises (i.e. "Subway" and "Kosher Subway"). The branding and colour scheme for the restaurants will be different and menus, takeout bags, promotional material and the like from Famous Laffa Kosher will all feature the COR kosher symbol prominently. At present the 401 Magnetic Drive is the only Famous Laffa Kosher location. Dr. Laffa on the Go located at 3027 Bathurst Street is also still in operation and under COR certification.
