TGD Cuts, LLC Recalls Certain Fresh-Cut Fruit Cup, Clamshell and Tray Products Due to Possible Health Risk

December 5, 2023 from the FDA:

TGD Cuts, LLC has initiated a voluntary recall of the specific fresh-cut fruit cup, clamshell and tray products listed below because they contain cantaloupe from TruFresh which has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Due to the expanded recall of fresh, whole cantaloupes by TruFresh, on November 28, 2023, TGD Cuts, LLC is issuing this recall. Cantaloupes recalled by TruFresh were used as a raw material in TGD Cuts, LLC fruit cup, clamshell and tray products listed below.

This recall includes fresh-cut fruit cup, clamshell and tray products containing cantaloupe listed in the table below with use-by dates of November 2, 2023, through November 24, 2023. Products were distributed to retail and food service locations in Maryland, D.C., Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina and South Carolina. No other products are affected.

Consumers, restaurants, retailers, and wholesalers should not eat, sell, or serve recalled cantaloupe or recalled products containing cantaloupe.

Some consumers freeze cantaloupe for later use. Consumers should check their freezers and throw away recalled fresh or cut cantaloupe that was frozen for later use.

If you are not sure if your cantaloupe is part of the recall, do not eat or use it and throw it away.

The Orthodox Union certifies Oregon Orchard Chocolate Covered Hazelnuts as an OU D - Dairy product. This product contains dairy as indicated in the alergens and ingredients statements. Some packaging are labeled with a plain OU symbol, without the D - Dairy designation. Corrective actions are being implemented.

Pelleh Poultry Corp. Recalls Ready-To-Eat Beef and Poultry Products Due to Possible Listeria Contamination

December 1, 2023 from the FSIS:

Pelleh Poultry Corp., a Swan Lake, N.Y. establishment, is recalling approximately 708 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) beef and poultry products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The RTE beef and poultry products were packaged on various dates from October 25, 2023, through November 20, 2023. The list of products that are subject to the recall can be found here. The labels for the products subject to recall are available on the FSIS website and here. Additional labels may be added as they are obtained.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. P44121” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail and institutional locations in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

The problem was discovered when the establishement notified FSIS that its laboratory testing indicated the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Kashrut Information & Alert: Aldi Salmon and Aldi Tilapia

ALDI FRESH TILAPIA FILLETS are not acceptable because they do not have Kashrus certification and are sold without skin / scales. Aldi’s FRESH FARM-RAISED SALMON, however, that is plain, unseasoned and vacuum-sealed, has skin / scales on one side and is acceptable even without certification. [“Farm-Raised” is stated in fine print on the back.] This includes Aldi’s Atlantic Salmon Portion and Fillet, Norwegian Atlantic Salmon Portion, and Coho Salmon Portion.

Ferrara Kashrus Alert

November 30, 2023 from COR Detroit:

FERRARA CANDY CO. products, including Jaw Busters [Jawbreakers], Atomic Fireballs, and others, are no longer under UMK certification, and have not been for quite some time. The individually wrapped Jaw Busters currently being sold, that bear the UMK symbol, may have been produced after the termination of the certification, and are not recommended.


October 9, 2020 - From UMK:

Chewy Lemonhead & Friends manufactured by Ferrara Candy Co. bear an unauthorized UMK. Corrective measures are being taken.

The only Ferrara products certified by the UMK are Atomic Fireballs and Jawbusters/Jawbreakers, any other items are not certified by the UMK.

OU Kosher Alert Manischewitz Dark Chocolate Coins

Manischewitz Dark Chocolate Coins, Kayco, Bayonne NJ have a mislabeled OU:
A very limited quantity of Manischewitz Chocolate Coins bags, labeled as Dark Chocolate Coins - OU Pareve, contain OU Dairy Cholov Yisroel chocolate coins. Consumers can easily identify if the chocolate coins in a bag are dairy or pareve by looking at the color of the foil covering the chocolate coins. Chocolate coins wrapped in gold colored foil are dairy and chocolate coins wrapped in silver colored foil are pareve. Consumers who purchased Dark Chocolate Coins bags should verify that the chocolate coins in the bag are wrapped in silver colored foil. The mislabeled bags are being withdrawn from the marketplace.

Manischewitz Issues a Product Mislabeling Advisory and Voluntary Recall on Some Very Limited Units of their Dark Chocolate Coins

December 1, 2023 from the FDA:

Manischewitz, is recalling Manischewitz Dark Chocolate Coins because it may contain undeclared milk.

The Manischewitz Dark Chocolate Coins were distributed to stores nationwide, predominately located in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut regions, during the weeks of September 26th, 2023 through November 28th, 2023.

This recall was initiated after the company was notified by their Quantity Control Department that a limited number of bags labeled as “Dark Chocolate Coins” contained Milk Chocolate Coins, which contains milk allergen that is not declared on the label. All dairy Milk Chocolate Coins are wrapped in Gold Foil within a Blue Netting and all non-dairy Dark Chocolate Coins are wrapped in Silver Foil within a Red Netting.

Only packages bearing the Lot Code below, may potentially have gold (dairy) coins in the “dark-chocolate tagged” bag.

Stores and Consumers can easily decipher if the product in question is labeled incorrectly. As indicated in the Images below.

Consumers who may have purchased this product are advised to inspect their product if gold foil coins are in the dark chocolate bags and discontinue use immediately. Consumers may return the product for credit or refund. If a consumer experiences an allergic reaction they are urged to report to a medical provider. Cut Fruit Express Recalls "Fresh Cut Fruit Mix Containing Cantaloupe" Because of Possible Health Risk

November 30, 2023 from the FDA:

Cut Fruit Express Inc. of Inver Grove Heights, MN, is recalling Caribou Coffee Fruit Mix CHPG 6.5oz, and Cut Fruit Express Brand of 6.5oz, 15oz, 16oz, 32oz packages of Fruit Mix contains Cantaloupes and Food service packages of 5lb tray, 10lb bag, 25lb Pail, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Caribou Coffee Fruit Mix CHPG 6.5oz was distributed from Caribou Stores at the MSP Airport Caribou locations in the MSP Airport, Minnesota. The product comes in a clear plastic package. The USE BY DATE was 11/4/23. The remainder of the recalled "Fresh Cut Fruit Mix containing Cantaloupes" under Cut Fruit Express and food service packaging was distributed through in MN, WI and IL via retail and food service delivery. The USE BY DATES were 11/4/23, 11/5/23 and 11/6/23.

The retail product comes in with Use by Date 11/4/23, 11/5/23, 11/6/23 on the top label and food service product comes with a date label of 11/3/23 on the bag, tray or a label with use by date on the pail.
