Baker's Selection du Boulanger Mini Donuts Missing "DAIRY" Designation

January 10, 2018 - From the COR:

Baker's Selection du Boulanger Cookies & Cream, Coconut Cream, and Caramel Crunch Mini Donuts were inadvertently labelled without a "dairy" designation. They are DAIRY and kosher certified. They were sold in Metro stores across Canada Corrective measures have been taken.

Dollar General Announces Voluntary Recall of Clover Valley® Iced Oatmeal Cookies Over Undeclared Milk and Tree Nuts

January 9, 2017 from the FDA:

Dollar General Corporation announced a voluntary recall of its 12-ounce packages of Clover Valley® Iced Oatmeal Cookies with lot # L46217 30 with a best-by date of August 18, 2018 over concerns of undeclared milk and tree nuts.

Dollar General initially learned of a potential issue based upon information received from a store level employee. The Company promptly contacted the product’s manufacturer who confirmed a production facility labeling error in which Clover Valley® Coconut Macaroons were inadvertently placed in Clover Valley® Iced Oatmeal Cookie packaging. Dollar General then contacted the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to initiate the voluntary product recall. The affected product package image is below for reference.

Milk and nut allergens present in the Clover Valley® Coconut Macaroon Cookies, which are not disclosed on the Clover Valley® Iced Oatmeal Cookie packaging, may pose a health risk to consumers if consumed.

Clover Valley® Iced Oatmeal Cookies were sold and distributed exclusively in Dollar General retail stores located in the following states: AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NY, NV, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WI and WV.

Customers who purchased this product are encouraged to discard it or return to their local Dollar General store to exchange the product for a like item. Consumers with questions may contact Dollar General’s Customer Service Department at 1-800-678-9258 seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST or by emailing custsvc@dollargeneral.com.

Kureiji on the UWS of Manhattan Drops OK Certification

January 9, 2018 - from the YeahThatsKosher and confirmed by the OK:

"A sign out front of Kureiji indicated that the restaurant is no longer kosher certified, and has just dropped its OK certification due to the sale of the restaurant to new owners."
"The new owners will be renaming the restaurant POKE-A-BOWL."
"After speaking to the restaurant’s management, the eatery is in process of finding another kosher certification that will allow them to stay open on Shabbat with the non-Jewish partner retaining ownership on the holy days. This is in line with many other kosher restaurants open on weekends that have non-Jewish owners."

South African Yoshon Information

January 9, 2018: From the Beth Din of Johannesburg: Please be aware that Orit's Bakery is presently not Yoshon. Once they receive Yoshon flour again their products will be marked Yoshon.

Biscuits By Design and Heidi's Bakery are not Yoshon.

Kashrus alert on asparagus

January 2, 2018 from the cRc:

Due to high amounts of insect infestation found under the triangular side leaves on the asparagus, the cRc now recommends in addition to cutting off the tops of green asparagus, one should either peel the entire sides of the asparagus or remove all the triangular side leaves and wash well.
