Bravo Produce Inc. Recalls Maradol Papaya from Productores Y Exportadores De Carica Papaya De Tecomán Y Costa Alegre SPR of RL and Packed by Frutas Selectas De Tijuana, S. De R.L. De C.V. Because of Possible Health Risk

September 10, 2017 from the FDA:
Bravo Produce Inc. of San Ysidro, is withdrawing Maradol Papaya, grown by Productores y Exportadores de Carica Papaya de Tecomán y Costa Alegre SPR of RL and packed by Frutas Selectas de Tijuana, S. de RL de CV, as a preventive measure, because the product has tested positive for Salmonella by exams done by FDA.
We inform that the product was distributed to markets within the state of California in the period from August 10 to 29, 2017. This product was addressed to wholesale customers and including retail consumers. Maradol Papayas were available for sale until August 29, 2017. Consumers can identify papayas by the label of the packing company, Frutas Selectas de Tijuana, S. de R.L. of C.V. It is important to clarify that Frutas Selectas de Tijuana, S. de R.L. of C.V., it is only the PACKER and therefore it puts its labels, but the grower of the Maradol Papaya is Productores y Exportadores de Carica Papaya de Tecoman y Costa Alegre S.P.R. de R.L.

CDC discovers fourth Salmonella outbreak linked to papayas

"Federal and state officials are investigating another deadly Salmonella outbreak traced to papayas imported from Mexico, but they have not named retailers that sold the contaminated fruit."
"At least 14 people across Arizona, California and Colorado have been confirmed with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Anatum,"
"A dozen of the victims live in California. At least four of them reported buying and eating papayas from the same retail chain before becoming ill."
"Neither the California retailer — which uses Bravo Produce as a supplier of papayas — nor any of the other retailers implicated in the other three ongoing outbreaks have been named by the FDA, which is overseeing papaya recalls by importers and distributors."

Israel: Health Officials Warn Of Eggs With Salmonella Threat

"While at times, if infection is suspected, consumers are told to cook eggs completely but in this case, officials instruct consumers to destroy the eggs. Officials do not want the eggs returned, for this will spread the infection. Consumers are instructed to take the loss and destroy eggs."

Southeastern Grocers recalls SEG freshcut produce for Listeria

Southeastern Grocers LLC has recalled freshcut produce products from BI-LO, Harveys, Winn-Dixie and Fresco y Más grocery stores.
The recalled products are packaged under the Southeastern Grocers SEG brand.
The specific products reportedly under recall are:

• SEG “Tri Pepper Dice” in 6-ounce packages with a UPC number of 3825911565;
• SEG “Stir Fry Vegetable” in 10-ounce packages with a UPC number of 3825911781;
• SEG “Fajita Blend” in 12-ounce packages with a UPC number of 3825911785; and
• SEG “Vegetable Kabob” in 23-ounce packages with a UPC number of 3825911592.

The packages reportedly have “sell by” dates between Aug. 12 and Aug. 20.

Loblaw Companies Limited is recalling President's Choice® Blue Menu Trail Mix from the marketplace because it contains wheat and soy which are not declared on the label. People with an allergy to wheat and soy or a sensitivity to gluten should not consume the recalled product described below.

Papaya Salmonella cases top 200; more farms implicated

"As of Thursday, there were 210 confirmed victims in the U.S. They are infected with seven different serotypes of Salmonella. The victims are spread across 23 states, with one death reported in New York, according to the CDC." " Three separate outbreaks linked to papayas from different farms have been identified."
The three farms in Mexico that FDA has confirmed as having Salmonella-contaminated papayas are:

• Carica de Campeche in Tenabo, in the state of Campeche;
• Caraveo Produce in Tecomán, in the state of Colima; and
• El Zapotanito in La Huerta, in the state of Jalisco.

Three brands of maradol papayas — all sourced from the Carica de Campeche farm, which was the first one linked to the current outbreaks — have been recalled in the United States. They are:

• Caribeña brand, distributed by Grande Produce;
• Cavi brand papayas distributed by Agroson’s; and
• Valery brand papayas distributed by Freshtex Produce LLC.

"The FDA is working to ensure that there are no other brands of papayas on the market that may have originated from the Carica de Campeche, Caraveo Produce of Mexico, and El Zapotanito farms."
