"New Jersey’s Assembly and Senate have passed a bill that would ban single-use plastic and paper bags, reports the New Jersey Herald. The bill now heads to Governor Phil Murphy to sign."
"If passed, the bill would take effect 18 months after it is signed into law. In addition, foam boxes and containers like clam-shells would also be banned. Any business violating the bill would get a warning on the first offense, but would incur a fine of up to $1,000 for a second offense, and up to $5,000 for a third or subsequent offense."
"Reusable plastic carryout bags will be exempt, as well as bags used solely for uncooked meat, fish, or poultry, or for loose items such as fruit, vegetables, nuts, coffee, or grains." Full story is here.
