The following Irish health alert is from the Food Safety Ireland on March 25, 2011.

Burren Smokehouse Ltd, Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare is recalling Burren Smokehouse Smoked Salmon, whole sides, 500g, 200g and 100g packs. (Approval number: IE CE 0004 EC) due to the presence of low levels of Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled batch is 1010x, no other batches are implicated.

  • Apple Strudel
  • Cherry Strudel
This change will take place on March 27, 2011. Strudels produced before this date and labeled with the DE designation are D.E.

King Soopers in-store bakeries - some of the Private Selection Fruit Pies have erroneous marking
Issue: Some varieties of Private Selection Fruit Pies are incorrectly being marked Scroll K PY DE. These pies are Dairy as listed in the ingredients list on the package. They are also not certified as Pas Yisroel.

The following health alert is from www.tradershuddle.com and www.barfblog.com on March 23, 2011.

Del Monte Fresh Produce N.A., Inc.. Del Monte Fresh, Coral Gables, FL is voluntarily recalling 4,992 cartons of cantaloupes, each containing 4 plastic mesh sleeves with 3 cantaloupes per sleeve, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella Panama. The cantaloupes were distributed through warehouse clubs in Alaska, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.
The recalled products consist of cartons of cantaloupes, each containing 4 plastic beige mesh sleeves each sealed with a plastic orange handle with the Del Monte logo and indication "3 count, Product of Guatemala" with 3 cantaloupes per sleeve and were available for sale between the 10th of March and the 21st of March, 2011. The cantaloupes, grown in and shipped from Del Monte Freshs’ farm Asuncion Mita in Guatemala, have a light brown color skin on the exterior, with orange flesh. The recalled cartons of cantaloupes are dark brown cardboard with the “Del Monte” logo in red lettering and “cantaloupes” in yellow lettering on a green background. The cantaloupes have the lot codes: 02-15-24-10, 02-15-25-10, 02-15-26-10 and 02-15-28-10.
Consumers who believe that they are in possession of uneaten cantaloupe affected by this recall should return it to the place of purchase for a refund and for more information may contact 1-800-659-6500 (operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week) or email Del Monte Fresh at Contact-US-Executive-Office@freshdelmonte.com.

The following health alert is from the FDA on March 18, 2011.

WorldVariety Produce, Inc., Los Angeles, CA is recalling Serrano Peppers, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The affected Serrano Peppers were isolated to 300 cases from Lot # 69073901, product of Mexico. This recall extends only to Walmart stores in Wisconsin, Montana, Utah and Wyoming; in addition to Jewel-Osco stores in Illinois. The affected Serrano peppers were sold from bulk displays between the dates of March 1, 2011 through March 18, 2011.
Consumers who have purchased the affected Serrano peppers listed above are asked to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact World Variety Produce, Inc. at 1-800-588-0151 Monday through Friday between 6:00 am and 5:00 pm Pacific Standard Time.

The following kashrus advisory is from the OK on February 11 2011 and reissued March 17, 2011.

Please be advised that that limited boxes of Post Fruity Pebbles and Post Cocoa Pebbles contain a promotional Fruity Pebble or Cocoa Pebble Treats Bar. These are Non-Kosher items. It is clearly indicated on the self contained bar that it is Not Kosher. This bar is double wrapped and does not come in contact with the Kosher certified Fruity Pebbles or Cocoa Pebbles.
