The following egg allergy alert is from the FDA on May 22, 2009 .

The manufacturer of Publix 100% Whole Wheat Sliced Bagels is recalling a limited number of 12oz packaging of 100% Whole Wheat Sliced Bagels with lot code date of 10491 and 11291 as they may contain undeclared Egg. The lot code date may be found printed on the clip that closes the bag. The UPC number may be found on the side label below the Nutrition Facts panel: Publix 100% Whole Wheat Sliced Bagels, UPC: 41415-78290 The product was distributed throughout the chain to include stores in FL, GA, SC, AL and TN. Consumers with questions may contact Publix at 1-800-242-1227."

The following kashrus notice is from the Kof-K on May 22, 2009 .

Johnson & Johnson, the manufacturer of LISTERINE POCKETPAKS has informed KOF-K Kosher Supervision that they will be discontinuing kosher certification of LISTERINE POCKETPAKS as of July 1, 2009. In anticipation of this change, Johnson & Johnson has revised packaging to no longer bear the KOF-K Kosher symbol. Due to potential consumer confusion, Kof-K Kosher Supervision recommends LISTERINE POCKETPAKS only when bearing the Kof-K symbol.

Information about LISTERINE® POCKETPAKS® Without a Hechsher
Some reasons for LISTERINE® POCKETPAKS® needing a hechsher are the following:

  • The product is viewed as a food item falling under the purview of hilchos kashrus.
  • The product contains kosher sensitive ingredients (i.e. can be animal derived) such as Polysorbate 80 and Glyceryl Oleate.
Once a kosher product is no longer certified, the company is allowed to obtain ingredients from non-kosher sources.

The following kashrus notice is from OK on May 21, 2009.

Please be advised that ORGANIC BUCKWHEAT PANCAKE & BAKING MIX produced by Organic Arrowhead Mills was mislabeled as OK~Dairy. The product is in fact PAREVE. Labels are being corrected.

The following kashrus alert is from the OK on May 21, 2009 .

Please be advised that the 24 pack – 20 oz plastic bottles of SNAPPLE made by Snapple Beverage Corporation has been incorrectly labeled OK Pareve. Each 24 pack contains 3 flavors:

    • Mango Madness and Kiwi Strawberry are kosher, OK certified and have the OK symbol on the label.
    • Fruit Punch is not certified and not kosher.

  • The following milk allergy alert is from the FDA on May 15, 2009 .

    L&M Companies, Inc., Raleigh, NC is recalling one lot of whole cantaloupes because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The whole cantaloupes were sold between May 10-15, 2009 in Walmart Supercenter Stores in NC and SC, and in the Walmart Supercenter Store located at 315 Furr Street in South Hill, VA. Consumers who have purchased whole cantaloupes from these Walmart stores during this time period should not consume them, and should destroy the product. The recall comes after a cantaloupe at a small farm from which L&M Companies sources product tested positive for Salmonella. L&M Companies has ceased shipments from this farm, and the grower continues to investigate the cause of the problem. Consumers with questions may call L&M Companies at 919-981-8003.

    The following kashrus alert is from the Kof-K on May 15, 2009 .

    Tofutti has announced a limited precautionary recall of Vanilla Tofutti Cuties due to possible trace amounts of dairy. These traces if they exist were inadvertent and Batul L’Halachah This product was produced in one of their plants during July 2008 and can be identified by plant # 360-300. Anyone that has any of this product should call Tofutti at 908-272-2400 for a refund. All Tofutti products including Tofutti Cuties continue to be certified Kof-K Parve. Additional safeguards have been put in place to avoid any future inadvertent errors.

    The following milk allergy alert is from the FDA on May 13, 2009 .

    Tofutti Brands Inc. has completed a precautionary investigative recall of 12 pallets of its 8-Pack VANILLA CUTIES mini sandwich frozen dessert novelties (UPC 0-20188-01301-2) due to possible trace level milk contamination reported for a limited number of lots shipped which were produced in July of 2008. VANILLA CUTIES are labeled as Milk Free and persons who have an allergy or severe sensitivity or intolerance to Dairy products run the risk of serious or life-threatening injury if they consume products with milk ingredients. From early March to early April 2009 Tofutti Brands received telephone reports from 6 consumers who experienced skin rash symptoms after eating VANILLA CUTIES produced at a minor production facility during 3 days in July of 2008. No illness or serious injury has been reported and no further reports have been received. The suspect product in question was identified as having been produced at only this one minor facility and the 12 pallets shipped from the suspect lots have been recalled. The bulk of these 12 pallets were recalled from the New York City metro area as well as from some distributed to the Midwest, New England, the Mid Atlantic Region and California. Investigation and reports from Distributors and store visits indicate that none of the suspect product remains in distribution and it is not currently being offered for sale.
    The suspect product in the above 12 pallets is identified by the labeled Manufacturing facility code 360-300 which will appear on one of the two end flaps of the box of the VANILLA CUTIES. Consumers who may have purchased VANILLA CUTIES bearing this code are urged to return them to the place of purchase for full refund. This recall does not involve any of the Company’s vanilla or other flavored TOFUTTI CUTIES manufactured at its other facility. Consumers with questions may contact the Company at 908-272-2400, Monday-Friday, from 9:00AM-5:00PM EST.

    Ed. note: According to the Kof-K, the recalled products are halachically pareve and contain about 10 ppm milk.
