Passover Alert - Joyva Products

April 25, 2024 correction from the Kof-K:

Due to a formulation change Joyva products that are certified for Passover are not recommended for Passover even for those who consume kitniot.

February 15, 2021 and February 24, 2022 from the Kof-K in response to a question from the editor:

The KOF-K kosher certification on Joyva products in 2021 remains as it was in previous years. They are certified for all year use but not for Passover because they contain kiniot.

New packaging, same products.

Consumer Advisory: “Redemption” Matzah

April 19, 2024 from the OK Kosher:

A limited amount of “Redemption” brand matzah, certified by OK Kosher, has been affected by storage insects. This occurred after it left the bakery and/or in transit (all flour is sifted and checked before baking).

Any affected matzos were immediately recalled. There is a possibility that some boxes were sold before the recall was completed.

Consumers are encouraged to check the matzah before Pesach as a precaution. OK Kosher stands behind the kosher certification of “Redemption” matzos.

Passover Shopping Information, Reminder & Alert

  • March 19, 2024 from the editor: Check each package before purchasing.
    • Non-Passover and similarly packaged Passover products are mixed together on shelves. A clerk told me that the case they received marked for Passover contained non-Passover items mixed in.
    • Kitniot products are placed on shelves next to similar non-kitniot products. The font on the hecksher (kosher symbol) that says kitniot is often so small that it is hard to read. Sometimes the kitniot notice is only in Hebrew.

Vitage Seltzer explanation from the Dallas K

April 13, 2024 from the Kosher Atlanta:

    1. "DK maintains that all unflavored seltzer, with just water and CO2, is KFP without a P.
    2. "Flavored seltzer needs to be certified KFP with a reliable hecsher.
    3. "Although Triangle-K is generally not recommended, we researched the facility, and are pleased to announce that all vintage seltzer (including flavored) are approved."
