The following information was received the the The Canadian Food Inspection Agency on December 17, 1998.
ed. note: The following alert concerns mislabeling of Canadian labeled Kedem Grape juice only. All Kedem grape juice products contain sulfites.
ALLERGY ALERT - PRESENCE OF UNDECLARED SULPHITE IN
KEDEM BRAND NATUREL BLANC GRAPE JUICE
OTTAWA, December 17, 1998 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning consumers with a sensitivity to sulphites that KEDEM BRAND NATUREL BLANC GRAPE JUICE sold in 650 ml., 1 litre and 1.5 litre bottles contain sulphite which is not declared on the label. These products, imported by Kofman-Barenholtz Foods Ltd. of Concord, Ont. and Hahamovitch Kosher Imports Inc. of St. Laurent, Que., were sold in Ontario and Quebec.
Consumption of sulphite can cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with sulphite hypersensitivity.
The importers of this product are voluntarily recalling the product from the marketplace.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with consumption of this product.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
