Snack Right Super Foods, Inc. dba Brad's Raw Chips Recalls Brad's Crunchy Kale & Veggie Chips Due to Potential Thallium Contamination

Snack Right Super Foods, Inc., doing business as Brad's Raw Chips, is recalling certain Brad's Plant Based Crunchy Kale (2 oz) and Brad's Veggie Chips Kale (3 oz) products because they may contain thallium.

Thallium (Tl) is a naturally occurring metal found in the soil and in sulfur-based minerals. It can be taken up by plants and vegetables, particularly those in the Brassicaceous family (i.e., cabbage, radish). Acute or chronic exposure to thallium at relatively high levels can result in serious adverse health effects, including gastroenteritis, damage to peripheral nerves, and alopecia (hair loss).

The products were distributed nationwide through KeHE Distributors and United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI), and sold directly to five individual consumers. Approximately 25,000 bags (about 2,097 cases) of the recalled products are estimated to be in commerce. Distribution occurred between October 2025 and December 2025.

The recall includes the following Brad's Plant Based products, all in bags, distributed under the brand name Brad's Plant Based, with the lot numbers and Best By dates listed below:

• Brad's Crunchy Kale, Original, 2 oz (57g) bag, UPC 813104021679, Lots 33525-1, 33525-2 and 33525-3 (Best By February 1, 2027), Lot 34525-1 (Best By February 11, 2027) and Lot 35125-2 (Best By February 17, 2027)
• Brad's Crunchy Kale, Cheeze It Up, 2 oz (57g) bag, UPC 813104021877, Lot 35025-3 (Best By February 16, 2027)
• Brad's Crunchy Kale, Radical Ranch, 2 oz (57g) bag, UPC 813104020726, Lot 29425-1 (Best By December 21, 2026)
• Brad's Veggie Chips Kale, 3 oz (85g) bag, UPC 854615002054, Lot 33225-3 (Best By January 28, 2027), Lot 33325-2 (Best By January 29, 2027), Lot 33425-1 (Best By January 30, 2027) and Lot 33525-1 (Best By February 1, 2027)

CDPH Warns Consumers Not to Eat Brad’s Plant Based Products

"The California Department of Public Health is warning consumers to avoid a variety of Brad’s Plant Based Crunchy Kale and Salad Snack products.

"These products are distributed by Snack Right Super Foods, Inc. and Brad’s Raw Chips, LLC. They are sold at major retailers in California and many other states. The following products were laboratory tested and contained elevated thallium levels:

• Brad’s Crunchy Kale Original
• Brad’s Crunchy Kale Vampire Killer
• Brad’s Balsamic Salad Snack
• Brad’s Ranch Salad Snack
• Brad’s Crunchy Kale Cheeze It Up
• Brad’s Crunchy Kale Nacho
• Brad’s Crunchy Kale Radical Ranch
• Brad’s Veggie Chips Kale

"Because these products are distributed from Pennsylvania and labeled with out-of-country ingredients “Product of Mexico,” CDPH is working with the United States Food and Drug Administration and the state of Pennsylvania to investigate.

"Consumers are advised to avoid eating any products containing kale from Brad’s brand because of the elevated levels of thallium detected across several tested lots.

"Consumers should not eat the Brad’s Plant Based products listed. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for a refund. Retailers should discard the products listed and not sell them to consumers."
