Consumer Kashrut Alerts

The following kashrus alert is from the Central Rabbinical Congress on April 26, 2007.

The Central Rabbinical Congress has suggested the following regarding coated fruits and vegetables:

  1. Coated apples and pears- it is better to peel them before eating
  2. Oranges, grapefruits, lemons, limes- it is better to peel them before eating
  3. Peaches, plums, nectarines- do not need to peel
  4. Grapes, strawberries and cherries are not coated
  5. Fruit used in industrially processed is not coated
  6. Tomatoes, Peppers - do not need to peel
  7. Cucumbers, squash- it is advisable (a good idea) to peel
  8. Industrially produced tomatoes and pickles are not coated
